[0:00] It's not a bird, it's not a plane. It's superhero slate. It's a weekly podcast where we talk about everything that's great. Like movies, TV superheroes. It's superheroe Slate, oh yeah! Hello everyone and welcome to Superhero Slate the show where we run down the latest superhero entertainment news We love TV movies and superheroes, so let's talk it all out. My name is Chris. My name is Mike. Ah, he's been waiting on that. He's been waiting on that for at least a few minutes This week, Street Fighter punches its way into cinemas. We'll talk about that for a little bit here. Actually, as notes into the show live right now for people who haven't seen it.
[0:52] The Batman gets a second director. Mike, what does that even mean? Not a second unit director, just another director. Oh my gosh. They still have one unit, if you know what I mean. two directors. That's okay. Vision Quest lands on streaming this week. Two episodes so far of the eight scheduled. And more on this week's episode of Super Hero Sweet. this podcast is gonna be really funny because Chris and I are currently existing on the dichotomy of the scale of Disney fandom. It was true. After our our mornings before we hopped on the mic, I went to a three year old's birthday party which had an appearance by Ariel the mermaid, quote, with a fin, which I think is really funny
[1:40] Because leads me to believe that there's different versions of aerial that you can hire and like if you want the one with the fin it probably like there's a surcharge. for limited mobility inside of a fin. So I found that very, very funny. And then Chris sends me a text to let me know that he is going to be late to the recording because he is at a drag brunch with Disney villains and then promptly sent me an image of drag Ursula. So I need to know which which Disney villain said you looked like a seventies adult film star. It was actually Ursula, believe it or not. so Ursula energy for sure.
[2:18] So there were I think f four drag queens who played two roles of Disney villains. so the first one was I believe it's the gray-haired lady who looks normal. Is it from Cinderella, the stepmother, I believe? I don't know her number or her name. There was Mother Gothel. I actually had my money on Jafar showing up before Ursula, and I won that bet because Jafar was there. we also had Lotto from Toy Story 3, which was a surprise. Oh. Yeah. She smelled like strawberries as is tradition. There was also, again, like I said, Mother Gothel from that. We had the Queen of Hearts, which was pretty good, you know, from
[3:03] Was that not Alice in Wonderland. Alice Wonderland. I was gonna say sleeping me it's not sleeping, it's Alice in Wonderland. and and a few more. Like they like so all the four they had two different outfits that was great. So on the way out they were like, oh Chris Or they didn't say Chris, they're like, Oh you look like a seventies porn star. I'm like, I was shooting for eighties, but guess what? Still saving them out of bush. so you know for the adult people on the cost on the on the podcast they'd understand that reference. Yeah, I feel like that that doesn't start getting trimmed until until the mid to late nineties.
[3:31] But so that being said, Chris is fresh off of some fun brunch cocktails and I am off of a couple slices of I'm gonna tell you right now. When they said my wife, it's her birthday this week, so she's like, We're gonna do this this drag brunch with my friends. I'm like, that's great, I'll do it. and they're like, Okay, brunch starts at like what ten, eleven? She's like one thirty. I'm like Fuck. That's not brunch. That's lunch. That's straight up lunch. That's a late that's a late lunch too. Yeah, I so I am 130 here. Like I am just, you know, I told Mike this. I'm like, I am buzzin' today.
[4:04] So you guys are gonna get a best Chris you can get. On the pod this episode. Chris is buzzing with excitement to talk about all of the superhero slate news that we have for you this week. I am jazzed off of slices of cheese pizza. Which I love. I feel like almost every toddler birthday party I've been to in the last year. There's always a cheese pizza nearby and ooh, I f I float to it like when a cartoon character smells a pie at a window. I just like elevate cause like any cheese pizza from anywhere, or I'm down for it. But So I was telling Chris I was very excited to start recording because I really wanted to crack open a can
[4:40] Of I want to add a new flavor to my Mount Rushmore of sodas. So a couple weeks, maybe a month ago, I anointed my first face on the Mount Rushmore of soda flavors that I think need like a Hall of Fame treatment. And that was the like the fruit, cherry, splash, Canada Dry Ginger Ale. Obviously in zero, because I'm a zero drinker. and then recently I have just fallen head over heels for the Crush Orange Soda Zero Sugar. It's by far the single best orange soda out there if you're a zero sugar drinker. It's it's so good. this is maybe like the third time I've dipped into like a 12
[5:26] Pack this summer and ugh It's delicious. It's so good. I I I literally I think I'm addicted to them. Can I ask you one question? Mm-hmm. Who loves orange soda? Oh, Mike loves orange. Mike loves orange. Is it true? Oh, it is so true. You might be wondering also, like, well, where are all the classics on Mount Rushmore? Like where's your diet Cokes, where your diet Dr. Pepper's? Those don't need any help. Those already have the notoriety. Those are already in the DNA of society. They're not going anywhere. I have to put things like Crush. In Canada Dry up on my Mount Rushmore because like not all of my squirrels around me carry them. Sometimes they're like weirdly seasonal.
[6:09] I can only get this specific crush at Walmart whenever it's not out of stock. So I basically I gotta I gotta raise them up in society so I can find them more readily available. So I went to yesterday or Friday, actually it's Friday, I went to Kroger and I was buying my wife her her birthday present. which was actually malted waffle mix, which is a a special waffle mix you have to buy at William Sonoma. So I went to Kroger to buy some other stuff. And you know what I saw Mike on the shelves? A very limited supply Dr. Pepper Coconut Zero. They had three cases of that here, and I was like, you know what?
[6:49] I don't give a fuck what it costs. I'm buying this Dr. Fabric Coconut Zero. I need it. I want it and I have to have it. So I appreciate your dedication to the Orange Crush Zero. I have cracked open here a high noon cranberry. it is the first truly cold weekend here in Kentucky for the the for the fall year. Enough so that I had to put on the heat slash cooling temperature in our thing. it was it was like forties and I was like, you know what? My my big if true. Yeah, my my young my not my young my middle cat has asthma. We have to give her an inhaler and the colder it gets the more her asthma
[7:28] Acts up. So I was like, you know what? I'm doing this for the cats No matter what everybody says. So I'm coming off a bunch of mimosas and I'm heading in this this cranberry high noon for this. But this morning I was able to watch The most 90s thing I've ever seen, Mike. And that was Street Fighter, the most recent movie for 2023 Oh my god. We have been preaching this movie all summer. and you would have thought that meant I would have made it a priority to see it opening weekend. obviously in my life the way is it organized around a child, no, did did not happen. I still want to see it.
[8:12] I did though, I was out to dinner on fr on Friday night and I did see Chris. I can't believe it. We left dinner, we were headed home, gonna put the kid down. Organically I saw a real human man cross the street wearing the guile popcorn bucket on top of his head. I haven't even seen that in real life. He he was walking liter the opposite direction from the movie theater. So that means he had just left the movie and he was wearing the pop room bugging out his. I loved it. It was such a a magical scene that I got this. I had to point it out to my wife. And I was just like, oh my God, he's wearing the guile popcorn bucket.
[8:45] And she just nodded her head and agreed with me like she knew what I was talking about. And I was just like, I was gonna press it, but I was like, I don't think we're in the same social algorithms. How do you know what this guy popcorn bucket is But maybe she just, you know, she knows me well enough to go, this is some sort of nerdy popcorn bucket for something that he knows a lot about. I want you to sit her down unannounced, send them like, hey, we need to talk. Do you know who Gile is? I'm provoked and see if she can answer that. And then she begins to read like the Wikipedia page verbatim from her head.
[9:18] She's just like, you I've been waiting for this question. My whole life. That being said, I have only seen the initial reports of the movie being absolutely awful, unfortunately. I've seen the abysmal Rotten Tomato score, but I also looked it up on IMDb today and it's sitting at like a like a six and change out of ten, which is actually really not bad for IMDb. Usually you round up at least one point on IMDb to kind of get to like a more of a like a a real score because the the the scores over there are always incredibly harsh. So like how is it sitting, you know, at a six, but also I'm seeing reports of people walking out of the movie
[9:57] God, this is not I so I will tell you, this is not a walkout movie. That that is absolutely exaggeration of the social media clout, if you will. This is not a walkout movie, but I will tell you, I told Mike this, I've seen about two-thirds of this movie. I had to pause it to go to This drag brunch, so obviously my priorities were in another place, but it wasn't like I gotta watch this immediately, day one. So that might tell you kind of where it is. But I will say Mike, of the Street Fighter games that are out, I think there's six now, do you know what the plot of Street Fighter is?
[10:38] Oh, I've no absolutely no clue. Good, because this movie doesn't fucking know either, and that's fine. I've watched two-thirds of the movie The movie is essentially Street Fighter 2. It's like this isn't the first World Tournament, this is a second world tournament. Okay, great. And there's a bunch of campy ass scenes in this. Like most of the background, like if you're they're telling you the history of a character or a scene, you're actually getting it in like a hand-drawn anime scene, which is really cool. Like I think that's fantastic. All the history is anime hand-drawn scenes and the cool the the the the obviously the the now stuff is modern. But I will tell you the one thing I didn't expect, and I'm just gonna set this up for you, if that helps, is that this movie is set in 1993
[11:27] Or four. I did not get that vibe that this movie was set in ninety in the nineties. I thought it was gonna be a modern retelling. of Street Fighter, but it is set in nineteen ninety-three or four. The opening animated scene is set in eighty-seven are are not necessarily opening some of the animated scenes are set in eighty seven and I'm like, oh I understand this because the original move the original game count out in the eighties and then the second was in the the nineties so I'm like I get this but like if you're not expecting that it's kind of like a a a jolt to your system if you will
[12:05] Of like oh there's tube TVs like there's a a a very interesting increase of interest in CRT televisions in me. Tell me, I can see it all over on the eBay listings. Everything's so expensive on eBay now. We'll talk about Vision Quest later where there's literally a entire setup of tube tell TVs. This has tube TVs. This has fighting. This is like, you know, a very, very thin plot. The last scene I watched was the Blanca scene with Jason Momoa. and I was like, this is the best they could do, is it? and and moved on. So this is a serviceable movie. I have the original one with John Claude Van
[12:49] Damme on VHS. I watched that. So I've seen the worst Street Fighter can be and this is better than that. But it's still if I'm gonna compare Fighty movies that are game adaptations here, Mortal Kombat Two takes the cake by a long shot. Like so okay. I'm definitely gonna have to watch this because I was not a fan of the new Mortal Kombat. So this might be right up my alley. So obviously stay tuned, stay subscribed. Mike will eventually organize his life in such a way he will watch this movie. but it's like one of those things like If you're working out, Mike, and you feel you know I know you watch a lot of things while you're doing your exercising, this might be something because it is about being buff and fit
[13:38] Throughout the movie. So It'll do that. Let's jump into a book series I read as a young child. The Chronicles of Narnia, what? The Magician's Nephew, the book no one really thinks of when they think of the Chronicles of Narni. They always think of the Lion, the Witch in the Wardrobe, or what was the second one that became a movie? Was that the They had the Voyage of the Don Treader, I believe. the second one. I read these as a child. I wasn't like a like no one told me C. S. Lewis was like very like, hey, this is biblical, but like I I just knew it was a fantasy novel series. See, this is kind of the problem.
[14:27] This is almost kind of the similar thing with like the Odyssey that came out this year of like the everyone's like abda adapting like the books that I read in grade school as a kid, but have never returned to. so I was really kind of struggling to remember the plot of the the lion, the witch in the wardrobe. but then I just saw everyone online saying, like, oh, it doesn't matter, 'cause this magician's nephew is chronologically the first one in the story, but written what was like I think I think six saw like maybe it's the seventh or something like that. Sixth of the like the eight books or something like that.
[15:08] Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So I mean I'm I'm I'm down to explore this universe with Netflix's money. Yeah, so this is the upcoming trailer of Greta Gerwig's next film, Post Barbie, is the Narnia, the Magician's Nephew, which is like a later book, but the origin of Narnia and the wardrobe that was built to give people access to to Narnia. So this is the first in that series from Netflix. It was supposed to be released this fall, winter from Netflix, but it's been pushed to February to be in theaters, so it's a big push this is quite the interesting movie if I'm gonna be honest with you. to me it's got Daniel Craig, it's got two young children.
[15:55] I have no idea who they are, it doesn't matter. But it's given me What is it's not Jumanji? What was the second movie, the space movies, Zathora vibes watching this? Oh, okay. because it's like I mean this is like a bunch of like the footage is a bunch of like this is how the world was built. the universe is built over here and not like exactly one for one, if that makes sense. I mean the the the two crazy things about this trailer to me is one since we were talking about the story, I have literally no idea what's going on here story-wise, which is totally fine. But if They are alluding to
[16:36] That in this movie we see the they say like literally like the birth of a universe So like Aslan, the tiger, you know, or l or sorry, excuse me, Lion creates this creates this universe. I was like I was like, this is an absolute insane origin story, right? Can like you imagine like if they did like a prequel movie for I don't know, something crazy. Like something crazy or like Marvel or Star Wars, right? Yeah. And everyone in the movie has absolutely nothing to do with like Star Wars, but then there's just like, oh I'm a magician. I'm just going to invent a universe that contains Star Wars and it like Absolutely trippy. Like I'm looking forward to that.
[17:17] That'll be really, really weird and crazy. but also they freaking licensed Stairway to Heaven for the trailer. I can only imagine how much money that costs and it's just to promote the movie. Like it doesn't even mean the m the song is in the movie itself. Because usually when you license music, there's like there's levels you have to get it approved for. You don't just get like a blanket license for however you want to use it. So that means they're like, we want to push this movie so bad We are gonna license one of the most iconic rock and roll songs of all time just for the trailer. And I was like, this h
[18:00] This is hitting. Like this felt like so cool while seriously. There's a whole report on that because Greta Gerwig had to call Robert Plant and I forget the g the the musician. Robert Plant is the singer and who's the musician for Len Zeppelin and had to get their permission. Like this isn't a song you go to Universal but can I borrow your song for money? They had to go to the artist like Greta had to go to the artists themselves and ask for their permission to use this because you don't hear this song very often like to your point like this is something special to the point like they don't just like yeah any s any movie can use it.
[18:37] No, they have to go get Robert Plain I I forget his name I I feel bad. Yeah. I mean it's not out of the ordin it's definitely not out of the ordinary to hear like Led Zeppelin in general, like famously immigrant song was at the very beginning of Thor Ragnarok. Yeah. In the movie and it was awesome. I mean I feel like that's a lot easier. Jimmy Page is as yeah. I feel like that's a lot easier to get approved because I mean Thor Thor Ragnar, I mean that's basically the materi that's the mythos that they they use for like album covers back in the day. so the fact that it's in this, like, I don't know, it just feels really, really cool.
[19:16] Yeah. Now who knows? This could be an absolutely awful movie and they're just like, oh well, we gotta market it like crazy to get people to go see it. But I really don't think it is like Greta Gerwig is is writing and directing this. I love the Barbie movie. Yeah. It is so irreverent and funny, and the filmmaking is so interesting. this trailer just screams like crazy like visual effects. I can't I can't wait to see it. It's so it's so Daniel Craig is the magician. Is it Eva Green? Is she the the witch there at one point or is that maybe I think so. She's wearing like a cool mirror dress. Yeah, it's a very, very like
[19:53] Disco ball esque and then we obviously get a a quick shot of the the f the ice queen who is in the the villain of the lion, the witch in the wardrobe. there's quite a bit going on. Do you think they're gonna try to do the full seven book series? Or eight books, I don't I mean I gotta imagine that's the intention. I mean you franchise start with this one. Yeah, and then you're you got Greta Gerwig on it. I mean I could see if it's extremely successful, maybe Greta goes on to do one or two more, but I mean this is a pretty large franchise, so you know, I could see her being elevated to like
[20:30] You know, producer and then maybe somebody else comes in and takes over some of the other movies. Oh yeah, absolutely. And I think Netflix the thing with Netflix is we've talked about this, like they're stupid slow to the gun on franchises, but like the Narnia books are like already set in stone. They're a hundred years old or so. They they there's not like oh they're writing another one next year. Like Like it's not a Game of Thrones scenario, so I think they could absolutely plan this out and make it work, but you've got to buy in, I think Greta Gerwig, she you know, being Her last movie was Barbie, which was one of the biggest movies ever, even up against
[21:07] Oppenheimer from Christopher Nolan. Like that is a a name in and of itself. And her to pull the the the song Stairway to Heaven is even in the trailer is even impressive. So I I do believe this will have some legs to it and and lift up come Come February of next year. I don't know any other movie in February next year. Do you know? Off the top of your head? Not off the top of my head, no. Cool. Well in that case, how about we jump to October of next year and then we're gonna talk about the mummy A little bit. The one filming right now with Brandon Frazier and Rachel Vice.
[21:43] The title has been revealed to be called The Mummy. Book of the Dead and that was what Rob Aminoptra was what the book was called, I believe, in the first movie. So this is a continuation of Mummy One, Mummy Two, skip the Mummy Three, fuck that movie. We don't care about it Joe writing to this is coming out October 15th, 2027. You sent me some photos. I had these I haven't linked them in here yet. The first set photos of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Vice on the set. I'm excited for this. Like this is I don't know he's looking. They're both looking great. I mean last week I think we talked about the show of Brendan Fraser having that unusual
[22:21] Kind of Hollywood career arc and you know, how is his leading man, you know, Aura gonna come back from the dead, if you will, mummy style in these books and he's looking great in these photos. I mean Oh yeah. I He I I want to go party with this version of Rick O'Connell. I you know Scott, you know what he's gonna tell me? It looks like somebody's on the wrong side of the river. That's what he's gonna tell me. because it's because it's taken from a telephoto lens, so we we are perceiving ourselves to be Benny on the other side of the road. Exactly. Yeah. Like Rachel Weiss looks great. This is gonna be so much fun.
[22:56] Yeah, I mean obviously they have aged, it has been thirty years or so, twenty-five years plus since they filmed. But I'm excited to take to come back into this universe. Like I think this is the the the right way to do it. And I am absolutely thrilled to to dive in here. In October of next year, the mommy movie on in a Halloween month. I think that's perfect. I think this will make a nice little Little chunk of the box office, but just watching these photos, seeing them come back together brings me back to those movies. And honestly, after recording today, Mike, I might go pop in the mummy returns on tape. Just to see how it holds up with that 1990s, early 2000s, The Rock, who looks like a PlayStation 2 graphics as a Scorpion game.
[23:41] To hold that up there. Is this on your radar for next year? Is this a is this a theater journey for Mike next year? Good question. I was I w I was just looking up the writer and directors for this. it's from a directing duo. that did the the Ready or Not and Ready or Not 2 movies. I've seen the first Ready or Not and I liked it. I feel like that's a good energy to bring to the mummy franchise. the writer on the other hand not particularly I would say excited for the matchbox movie with John Cena. I don't really I'm not really in it for the family
[24:17] Plan movie. But it it he does interestingly have like a background in writing horror and then kind of pivoted to f family movies, so maybe I don't know, maybe this dude is just smart and was following the money. So we'll we'll see we'll see how it goes. Well I'm gonna ask you right now, do you know who wrote or directed the original first mummy movies? Absolutely not. Yep, yep, Steven Summers. I don't know. He did both of them. I couldn't tell you who that was. the only thing I know he did after that was Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman and the G. I. Joe Rise Rise of Cobra. He also did Odd Thomas.
[24:57] I remember seeing that movie, but nothing about it. But But either way, you know, we'll we'll see what comes out of this because I really did not care for the third movie, but we'll see what this this one brings to the table. But I love I love a good legacy reboot or legacy continuation and with that we have confirmation that the Hulu has ordered a reboot or the series to the X-Files from Ryan Kugler. A full series one if that if that helps you. I never watched the X-Files growing up, Mike. Is this a show that you grew up? watching regularly? Yeah, I I think it kind of skipped
[25:39] Maybe our generation slightly. Obviously I think there's millennials out there that are fans of the X Files, but coincidentally enough, it does feel like a very Gen X show. it does seem like it would be something fun to get into, right? Like if you needed kind of like a nostalgic like literal like monster of the week. I think X Files sounds like a fun trip to go down. I am kind of excited to see that it's gonna be like a reboot, right? 'Cause I I know that there are occasionally like X Files like movies in development that bring back the original cast, but like I can't do my homework in time to get excited
[26:19] For those, unfortunately. Like David DuCovny, you know, obviously, great, and then I'm trying to think who was I'm 'cause Mulder and Scully. her name's on the on the tip of my tongue. she was just in a movie with Yeah, yeah, yeah. She was just in a movie with what's her face from hacks. You can you can tell I'm really on top of my Hollywood name game right now. But I'm very happy that what I'm trying to say is that it's a reboot. obviously we love all things Ryan Kugler mostly. So X-Files, I'm down for it. I think this will be a legacy story, but with new people, I
[26:57] Obviously the the main actor is Hamesh Patel who was recently in the Odyssey. I think he did a great job of the Odyssey, by the way. And Danielle Deadweiler, who is known for the Beljar. They're the leads of this movie or the show. I I've tried to watch the X-Files in retrospect like a couple years ago. I just couldn't get into it. and I don't think it's anything against it. I just don't think I'm of that, yo. kind of if I'm looking for aliens, I'm watching Men in Black. Like I want the lighthearted Will Smith, you know, kind of journey instead of the like Are they real or are they not kind of stuff?
[27:35] That was pretty heavy because I I just think there's a lot of like to your point, there's a lot of X files out there. How do you catch up on it? and and what what is the importance? Because there was, I believe, wasn't there like a like a s like a continuation series? a few years ago that they brought back. It was like season ten Yeah, that sounds about right. That's what I'm saying. It's hard to keep up. This has gotta be what it feels like when we tell people that they need to watch Like Vision Quest. They're just like, what? I have to go back and watch like fifteen years of
[28:09] Marvel stuff to get what you're getting out of vision quest so I sympathize. Yeah I looked it up it was twenty sixteen and so the initial run was ninety three to oh two and then they picked up in twenty sixteen through twenty eighteen So I'm like, oh, that's a lot of 93 is 23 years ago right now. I'm like, oh, that's a lot of that's a lot of show to watch. But nothing against it. I'm sure it's great. Just never really, really picked. up myself but we'll see what this is Ryan Kugler obviously coming off Black Panther. What was it was did he do the it's not similar to the X
[28:45] Files, what was that show? The Twilight Zone? Was that his as well? wasn't that Jordan Peel? I thought it was like a halfway thing between them. I don't know. Okay. Ryan Kugler. I'm gonna I'm gonna Google search them. live here boys and girls let's see what he's got up to because he's not done anything that i know of since black panther his tv he did centers i take that back he did centers I've heard the Sinners Hollywood Horror Knights maze is perfection. They've gotten some pretty good I guess live action Michael B. Jordans for the maces that are pretty compelling. so if you're l
[29:27] If you live near a universal theme park and you like horror nights, go check out that Sinners maze. He was a consultant on both Eyes of Wakanda and Marvel Zombies, so he has been around since then, but who knows when those were. made so we'll we'll keep an eye out. I'm nothing against X Files. I think this has got a a great opportunity coming up here. Let's jump back into the DC universe here, but Supergirl, have you seen the discourse around Millie Alcock this week? week at all about her thankfully I I have not. Yeah. The internet's all in uproar. She's like, oh, Millie Alcock, she updated her Instagram removing all her supergirl stuff, so she's obviously fired
[30:09] It's not she's an actress slash model. She has updated her Instagram to be more modeling focused, which makes sense. That's her work, her role. so she's not fired from the DC. James Gunn has gone online even, he's done one of his internet things. where he said she's not fired. She's also returning in Man of Tomorrow with Supergirl. Do we know our future beyond that? No, but I she's fine. I think this is just a hey I upgraded man screen to focus on the next job that's coming, which is modeling. That's great. I don't think it's an indication she's been fired at this point. Like any any doubts you have about this? Just another false narrative.
[30:48] You know, we we were talking just a minute ago about Street Fighter being hyperbolically dragged for a a relatively okay movie we'll wait until Chris finishes it till get his worst, believe me. His final review. But like it's it's exact same situation with Supergirl. Like the amount of discourse around that movie compared to, you know, what it what it actually intended. Like the the equations off, the formulas not exposing you're not getting the the the conduction you're looking for. Like Supergirl was serviceable, it was fine. It didn't need half of the headlines that I got, either positive or negative So just leave Millie Alcock alone, you know. yeah, I I think I think the discourse is louder than the actual movie.
[31:40] Like it is forgettable, no offense to it, but like it I I don't think about this movie at all. That's fine. I think there's some other stuff going on. We've talked more about lanterns, you know, upcoming man of tomorrow, her place, and that'll be good. So we'll see about the future. But right now she's definitely, definitely not fired so we'll we'll be we'll be good on that front for definitely a while. But another thing, Peter Saffron, he's been on the red carpet. Do you know why Peter Saffron's out on the red carpet this week, Mike? Mike? trying to save his job after being acquired? Not really. Clayface has hit some I guess stream
[32:16] Early early previews, stuff like that. So he's out there taking interviews as producers slash co-CEOs do and he has been talking about Swamp Thing. When's the last time you did a Google search on Swamp Thing, Mike? never. Maybe never. Yeah. So Peter Saffron has said that Swamp Thing, the movie that is directed by I can't even he just did the last Indiana Jones movie. is still in the works at DC Studios. And I quote, comma, or quote, we're working on it. Absolutely. The script is being written as we speak. He also mentioned about the director, James Mangold, that's who it was. is, you know, how do you like what
[32:57] Someone who's working on other projects, how do you bring them in? Like he's not just free reign, he's doing other stuff. So obviously it'll take a little bit. But it is good to know that some of the stuff they announced in Gods and Monsters is still being worked on, I guess, if that makes sense. Yeah. I mean I've seen some initial reports coming out for Clayface and they are absolutely glowing. Like to the point where you kind of gotta be a little skeptical. Like, is this Tom Cruise saying Digger is the best movie I've ever seen, despite it being the biggest flop at the box office this year Yeah, but I mean like
[33:36] That's good. I mean if these are true like Clayface could be like a big a big win for them coming up here in just a couple weeks. So stay tuned. Yeah, we will see if Clayface picks up. To me, I I'm not I'm not trying to be any Clayface reeks of that Sony anti -villain universe a little bit where they did venom and Craven and all the other stuff. But we'll see. I I I know nothing about it. We'll see if they've added anything. So that'll be here. I think next week it comes out before before Halloween. On the flip side, we talked about Mr. Miracle, was it last week or like the week before?
[34:10] It's been recent in the news. But Peter Saffron out there, they call him loose lip saffron for a reason, Mike. So the voice acting leads have been revealed with Josh Hutcherson, known for his role in the Hunger Games, Five Nights of Freddy's playing Scot Free, and actress McKinsey Davis. And then for Blade Runner 2049, and I also know her from the last Terminator movie is portraying Big Barta. So they do have pretty big name actors being voice actors in this upcoming animated movie. Do you think they're gonna come to live action at any point or do you think they're gonna just remain in the cartoon space? Well, I mean, it feels like they are positioning Mr.
[34:54] Miracle to be closer to the film universe, so and with names like that, I guess you kind of assume that these would transfer to live action. we mentioned a few weeks ago how they are trying to kind of carve out that experimental Robin. duo Robin movie, as like its own thing, so those voice actors won't continue on. So I guess, yeah, we used to have like a very clear, like anyone who is voice cast, you will see them again on the on the big screen. But now there's starting to be these like exceptions to the rules, so you're just kinda like, Oh, okay, well well we'll s we'll see. I like Josh Hutcherson, he's funny.
[35:37] Yeah, I think he's a great actor. I think I think McKinsey Davis is a great actor is I don't foresee their need in a live action movie, I guess, at that like like you can have all these characters, but there's no guarantee they're gonna make it to the live actions. Like what is it in creature commandos David Harbour is the voice of Frankenstein. I don't see Frankenstein making it to the live action DCU at this point, right? We barely have any other movies. but we do know Nathan Fillion, who is Mike, Green Lantern. We'll be making it to the show. The gym teacher. Yes, the gym teacher. will be making it over here with his nice little redheaded bowl cut.
[36:20] So there is some connection, but there's done I think some people can make it to animation, but there's no guarantee animation will make it to law action along the way. But this is a show Tom King is he wrote the series they're basing it on. He's been very involved in it. I am interested to watch this. Like there's nothing here Making me concerned, I'm interested to learn more about Mr. Scott Free and Big Barta in their journey in the DCU. let's talk about the Batman Part 2. This is definitely a very would you say delicate subject, Mike, at this point this week? I would almost say it's only I would say it's almost only
[37:05] Delicate because only like sensible people are approach approaching this news sensibly, like this is just like if you're like a clickbaiter, if you are just looking for the most like delicious headline to get people drawn in from a timeline. Like this is like a absolute feeding frenzy. So but I think if you take a step back and look at it, you're just go like Oh okay. Yeah this all makes sense. Well let me start with my clickbait title here is that yet another DC property loses a director and gains another director. very similar to the Justice League from several years ago. However, I will take Mike's approach and be reasonable.
[37:50] Matt Reeves has stepped away from the film due to personal family issues. We don't know what this is. It's very vague. That's fine. That's their business, not our business. Steven Soderberg will be taking over as director for the remainder of principal photography on the film of the Batman 2. And I will go ahead and do this quote before we talk about it because this will add context As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh and as an admirer of Matt's work, approach Matt and will step in. with the full support of DC Studios to help the writer director complete the final weeks of principal photography on the Batman Part 2. Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and create a fulfill Matt's vision of the film.
[38:33] So Matt Reeves is stepping away. Steven Soderberg is here to finish his script. It is not a reshoot from ground zero. This is essentially I am out for a bit due to whatever issue this is. I need someone to help me finish it. Hey, Steven, you will See this across the finish line and Matt Reeves will most likely return for post-production duties to meet that release. This seems more like a tag team, Mike, than an actual overhaul or revisioning of the film. What do you think? Yeah, to me this is this is kind of funny because if you take a step back at it and you just look at this job as just any other job out there in the workplace.
[39:17] This is kind of almost like a nothing burger, right? You know? How dare you? How dare you? You know, if somebody needs to take a couple weeks off work to fly back home and take care of like their parents, like, oh, one of them like fell and they need a hip replacement and they need help getting around the house. I got to take off work and I'm in the middle of a project. Somebody else like steps up and carries it, you know, until you get back. You know, this almost is like the most innocuous thing that can happen, you know, but since it's a movie and it like these are usually creative driven by directors, you know, it's their DNA that's on, you know, every frame, you know
[39:53] It it starts to feel more personal. but yeah, this seems like an absolutely different s scenario than the the Snyder Wheeden thing. And I just actually I think this is kind of endearing and kinda like sweet, right? You know, since these movies are a very personal thing, you know, this is Reeves like second go with the Batman character, this universe that he is kind of like created on his own. You know, he has to step away and I'm sure he would love it to be any other scenario, right? He doesn't want his family you know, to get sick or whatever it is. He doesn't want to have to step away or hand it over.
[40:27] But I think it's really cool that he's like, Oh, like I'm guessing Steven Soderbergh is his friend, which is why he stepped up and asked to help out. You know, and I think that's cool of just like, oh, I can trust you, you know, to handle this. You know, there's gotta I I'm not a director, Chris. you know, I'm sure that there is like, you know, a shorthand for professional film directors, right? You know, you step on a set, you know, I feel like, you know, yeah, I c I can help you out. Like I've done movies, you know, we're friends, we talk about movies all the time or whatever. So I just think it's kinda cool that like a a friend can kind of step in and and help a little bit.
[41:01] Yeah, and I think you know Steven Soderberg is not a an unknown name either. I think that's the important part. Like he is known for his Box office breaking movies Magic Mike and Magic Mike's Last Dance. So obviously if you want to see Batman twerking Or doing strip dances. We definitely have no I'm k I'm kidding. I'm I'm I'm being facetious here. He did do he did this show that me and my wife really, really loved. I think it was maybe show time or cinemax like back in the era where like every cable channel had like a prestige drama. There was a show called The Nick. which was really really cool. It was this historical drama about the first basically like
[41:42] Surgeons out there in the world. That was like really cool, really stylized. So like the Soderberg has a has a a hand at like the dramatic flair. And and I will be honest, I I as someone who enjoys the oceans eleven, twelve, and thirteen, he did all the oce he did three oceans movies. He did Logan Lucky, he's also done Oh yeah. We just watched Logan Lucky recently. Yeah. We rewatched it recently. It's great. Yeah, he he's done Aaron Brockovich, Traffic, like he's done dramas, he's done he's done like these these movies. There is nothing against him at all. I I I we we just but honestly this is a situation where you need someone to come in and be
[42:24] A partner and not take over. This is not a It very it might sound similar to Zack Snyder's version of Justice League, but I think this is more of a partnership rather than a someone's take it coming over and just doing their own version. This is a We're gonna work together to get see this through. He's gonna see it across the finish line. while we don't wish any ill will on anyone in the industry, this sucks. obviously if if it's big Matt raised we we had heard it previously he had taken some time to make this because of family issues. I don't know what's going on, but hopefully it is we
[42:58] It That's the best for him. And it sounds like unlike Justice League, which is what we compare, it's against this will be you know, a a movie of Matt Ree's vision across the finish line as much as possible If that makes sense. It's like if I was doing a podcast, I need Mike to step in, it's the same situation. I I I trust him to see the cross finish line. And just And I feel like just like that, I'll be texting you like Chris, what's the password? How do I how do I how do I upload this? What's editing? The the script is done, the vision is done, I don't you know, most of the movie is done.
[43:29] He's just helping get it across the finish line in a Great wait, there will always be reshoots. We will see more of that later. I this is not a I this isn't raising red flags for me. This is more of what a what what's the is it a green flag? What's the what's a good flag in a relationship, Mike, is it a beige flag or or whatever color it is? I think beige flag is usually intended to be neutral. Like nothing to see here. Move along. Yeah, this is a beige flag. Like this is this is standard work. Like like Mike said, if I'm out for a week on vacation when I went to Disney, I know who to handle it.
[44:00] If something pops up, this is what it is. So this is great. I'm glad they're helping them see it across the finish line. No one's really taken over. And we'll have more news for this probably maybe a year or so, whenever We're a couple months out from release, so we'll keep everyone posted on how this turns out. But to me, this sounds like a great deal, and I'm glad they're helping him see it across the finish line for that Earlier today I read this article interview with Michael Waldron. he was asked about the Nova movie he's writing on, and they were like, hey. Man, you just did that movie with Glen
[44:40] Or that TV show with Glenn Powell, what's it called? Where he's like the football player? Chad Powers? Yeah, Chad Powers. He's like, oh, you love Glenn Power. He's obviously gonna be Richard Ryder. And he's like, dudes And I quote, these are questions for the hype are that to be hypothetically asking someone who was hypothetically directing a movie, but that person, if they wanted to hold on to that job, should not answer these questions Boy this sounds like the the free cop out to be like I might be directing this movie, but I can't tell you what's going on it's the unintended consequences of your career intersecting with comic book properties of like you
[45:20] You know you're gonna step out there on the press line and like somebody's gonna ask you about your comic book project coming up. So that was the best response of just like leave me alone Yeah, I know like like that is the the the worst part like he is normally a ri I I can't pull up anything he's a writer and producer I don't know if anything he's directed do you know off the top of your head Hmm can't recall. yeah, I'm I'm gonna look it up here. I will say I'm actually is your wife available? No, she's downstairs. okay. well I'm gonna text her because I think this guy, Michael Walturn, looks like you.
[46:05] Mike. I think he I think on if you if you Google him and looked at him, I'm like this is this is Mike from Superhero Slate writing these movies. And that's why you're you're so in the 'cause you're you're taking my I can kinda I can kinda see it. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. You're what you're a screenwriter, Mike. That's what I'm saying. I'm gr I I have a beard right now. Okay. If I just get like and my hair's a little long, so if I just trim it up a little bit, shave the beard, keep the mustache, I just gotta find out where his office is in town and just see if I can just
[46:37] Like strut in, just Ah, Chris he gives us tall vibes though. I feel like he's taller than the he's got tall guy energy. I feel like he's like six five secretly. Yeah, that's what the photos do at at press junkets for you. They make you look tall. Okay, here's a picture of him standing next to Glenn Powell. How I can figure out how tall how tall is Glenn Powell. I I have a quote from Mike's wife. She says you somewhat look like him but you're she can see the resemblance, but Bill Hader is still a closer look for you. Okay. Glenn Powell is six foot Zero inches, which tells me
[47:15] In Hollywood speak, he's probably more like five eleven. and Michael Waldron standing right next to him is technically shorter. So actually, Chris, Michael Waldron might be exactly as tall as me if I'm if I'm doing the math correctly. So I might be able to pull this off. I'm gonna tell you, just looking at this According to IMDB, Michael Waldron is six foot four inches tall, and I don't believe that one fucking second. No, we got I gotta figure I gotta figure this out. Do you think I could just reach out to him? Could I just DM him? Yeah. Hey, I w how tall are you? six foot one according to another website, but IMDB has him as six foot four and I'm like
[47:58] How old is he? That's the question. I don't nineteen eighty seven. He's younger than me. He's April nineteen eighty-seven, Mike. He's older than you. Chris, I was I am born in I am born in eighty-seven. Yeah. Am I this man? Where is he from? What is li what's Chris, what's his ancestry? Can we log into his ancestry account? If I'm related to him, maybe I can get in on this Nova movie. Michael Waldron blacks out and becomes Mike for superhero slate every Oh my gosh, are we like moon nighting this? Is this what's happening? Is this why I can't remember anything anymore? Yeah, absolutely. I yeah, we need to message him like hey, this is
[48:31] This is for science. We need to know how tall you are. oh okay I keep getting more texts from your wife. she she says I can see the resemblance to Bill Hader is a way closer look is her official quote. Or Mike looks like a sexy Bill Hater more so than a Michael Walter and so you get both. Oh she's being she's being far too generous, I appreciate it. You must have fed her lunch today. so I I appreciate Trying to get to his Wikipedia page. all right, finally. Okay, I need not curr okay, where did he graduate from? Journalism mass Massachusetts is that what Mass Oh at the University of Georgia.
[49:10] Okay, so He was an intern for Adult Swim. I watched Adult Swim. Well he did he wrote the obviously the the the Rick and Morty episodes that have to deal with multiverse and stuff like that. Loki. I think it's you. So it makes a lot of sense at at the end of the day. but yeah so either way you know he may or may not direct this is a very like what what what do you call it a nothing burger where it's just like, yeah, he's saying this but like he can't commit or deny anything until the job said. If we've learned anything, the biggest reveal out of this is we were born in the same year and we look
[49:49] Somewhat familiar. Yeah, right? I'm jealous. You know what? This is the I should just return my Halloween costume. I'm in a town where maybe I could theoretically pull off Michael Waldron's Halloween costume. You could literally L you know how many places you could you could just go up to the Marvel Studios office of like I'm Michael Waldron and you get up here and then you pull out your ID and it just says Michael and they would never know because Obviously your mic. So I you know you can probably get pretty far with that confidence in that look. So I'll hold my I'll cross my fingers for you and see what we get.
[50:23] But like for Nova, obviously it sounds like he might want Glenn Powell's Richard Ry. I think Glenn Powell's a great actor, he'd be a fun Richard Ryder, but You know, the one thing I don't think about about Marvel is like, oh, they're gonna hire the wrong person. They always hire the right person for the role. right like I've never once thought about oh they hired the wrong person they should recast them it's nothing I've ever thought about in 20 something years of thinking about Marvel so I think I think they're good with that how invested are you in the Daredevil, the last season of Daredevil coming up next year? Chris. As every day goes by, much
[51:03] Much like a Benjamin Button situation, I feel like I am becoming less detached from this show. unfortunately. Like I I feel like I do not care what happens in the next season. Yeah. No matter how it ends, Mike gives can I count the number of fucks on my fingers? Zero. He's given zero fucks for this upcoming thing. yeah, I agree. so the the rumor for next season is to end when Luke Cage becomes mayor of New York City. Do you think Luke Cage becoming mayor of New York City will carry over? post secret wars. I mean I think that would be kind of that would be kind of fun, right?
[51:46] I the the question is is does it ever matter moving forward in the MCU? I don't think the mayor has really ever been narratively connected to what happens in these movies. Kind of the closest we get right is some like Military general. Right. Spider-Man brand. She gives him the key, Mike. Do you not remember it was not Wilson Fisk? Giving him the key. That actually would be kinda sick if it was if it was Luke Cage doing something like that. then there could be like a little like probably deleted scene that they cut from the movie of like a little back and forth between them. you know, we do get like an American president every once in a while,
[52:27] But then I feel like it never ages well. literally the actors sometimes age out of the role. I just watched I just finished Iron Man 3 after like two weeks of leaving it on the final act and I was like, okay, I'll watch this And it was like the president I'm like, Oh, it's the guy who played the skeleton in Bill and Ted, but I'm like, I don't know who this is. He never has any in he never shows up again later on. so it's like the political regime is always, you know, shuffled. in these Marvel movies if that makes sense for your for what you're saying. Luke Cage, obviously
[53:02] Mike Colter, obviously great actor as as Luke Cage, has definitely powers, would be a pro powered person, if that makes sense. in the the MCU where it's kind of becoming anti-powered, but like is will that be something that lives post-secret world? wars. I don't think it will. I think it'll be something they're like, yep, this is the end of the show. He's mayor. We might see like a clip later, but I don't think they're gonna have him be mayor for very long afterwards. If that makes sense to you what you're saying. So I don't know. Daredevil Born Again Season 3 hits spring, probably March of 2027, in between Secret Wars and or Doomsday and Secret Wars.
[53:44] So we'll see This comes to fruition at the end of the day. I put the wrong time code in here. Mike, have you been following the Zodiac news since last week? Since we announced I mean, there hasn't really been much news, has there? Are people ruminating on on rumors? I think the thing is the the the official news that will be a dark political thriller, but currently they're working on casting three main British leads, two male and one female. So I didn't have really the UK as the main setting for this show in my in my notebooks based on reading Secret Warriors. Is this do you think this is something that might pick up
[54:29] From the secret invasion with the super scrolls and the MI-13 kind of stuff. I mean they got studio space over there, right? They they left Georgia, so I guess it makes sense that they'll be doing some stuff over there. I mean, this is already kind of Giving me what I want, which is I don't want to see Georgia anymore on the screen. You know, I'm sure Georgia's a fine place, but it has been visually exhausted. d through the golden age of television and tax credit. So yeah, I'm happy for anything to be filmed anywhere else. I'm also I'm excited. To my last point for Daredevil, I'm excited for everything to not be in New York
[55:13] For five fucking minutes, if that make sense like everything is always in New York and everything we've talked about this till we're blue in the face nothing like nobody remembers the last thing that happened We had the blip, we had the invasion, we had was the sentry doing the shadow stuff, and then what was the Spider-Man Gene Gray like People aren't talking about this. They're not really making the extent of New York being the hub a very good talking point. And they should. Like that that being like where everything happens should be bigger than it is. So then going to the UK, maybe ta tapping into Excalibur with Captain Britain. Like this is huge.
[55:55] The Super Scroll, what was her the actress's name I forget the Game of Thrones girl Amelia Clark. like, you know, that she was left in the UK's hands. there's a lot of opportunity to show like, hey, the world's bigger than New York and I I agree with that and I th think this would be a great opportunity for a show to tap into those resources of like, hey, UK notice new lots of stuff's happening in New York. We're gonna fucking suit up for it because we are tired of you know, all the Americans messing up the rest of the world for us. So I think that's a huge, huge opportunity, if you will.
[56:35] Along the way. Will Amelia Clark be in the show? Probably not, but we do know she's there as a super scroll with her awful CGI powers that we saw in Secret Invasion. last bit of news here, Mike. Vision Quest, the first two episodes debuted this week on Disney Plus. Have you had a chance to watch those? Yes, I did. We checked them out. we saved one for each each night, so we didn't watch them back to back. But yes, we have seen them. Same here. We watch one Wednesday and then we watch one Thursday. I know they came out early on Tuesday night, 1013, which was the date in the book wanted
[57:16] Checked out what was the the dark hold out of the library. I think it was a fun little Easter egg. but we did watch them separately and that that date had nothing to do with either of them. so let's let's talk about the first two episodes. I feel spoiler spoiler filled From here on out, you feel comfortable with that? Yeah, I think that's I think that's fair. There's not a lot ex at stake here. So if you're willing to spoil yourself, I think I think you're fine. Yeah, absolutely. I th I'd recommend watching them. The first two are on Disney Plus. Please watch Wandavision. You might even do yourself a favor by watching Agatha all along, still great show.
[57:51] Less connected, but Wandavision is referenced like Like it is the parent of this child, pun intended for this entire first two episodes, if that makes sense. I I'm digging this, Mike. I don't know. It's something about Paul Bettney in the vision, but most importantly I love James Spader as Ultron, as the robot in Age of Ultron. I love him as the human version of Ultron in the vision's mind. My wife is like, I love this guy. We watched the Blacklist as a TV show with Jane Spader. I'm gonna go back to Stargate with Jane Spader. He is just an awesome actor who brings so much gravitas but also like levity to this like
[58:39] Humor and like real emotion to this. I'm having a good time the first two episodes. What are you what are you thinking? Yeah, I mean it's fun. Who can't love the charm from Paul Bettney and James Spader? It's great. I'm trying to think of maybe the best way to describe like the visuals inside of his head. It's like not quite mid-century modern, but It's very eclectic, extremely saturated. It's like I thought of the Narnia trailer this week and this movie I was like, oh, I think Hollywood is cranking the saturation slider in like Da Vinci Resolve. because they're really putting my the pixels in my television it feels to work.
[59:26] Like a natural continuation of WandaVision which did have that Like weird, like after the black and white, like it really got really technicolor, if you will. with the two the tube TVs and stuff like that. Yeah, and I like this unique kind of mental kind of implementation inside of his brain of you know, he's got Ultron locked up so like we see it presumed as like him like trapped in the attic behind a gate. So I kind of like that idea. I'm like a big fan of I think this is kind of more of a a new trope I've seen come through storytelling where you have an incredibly overpowered character that you kind of
[1:00:08] Have to really go out of your way to stop. Mm-hmm. But and that character is like your hero, right? So how are we putting obstacles in front of somebody like the vision who is Gosh, I I mean I don't know if if somebody has like an accurate power scale representation of all of the characters of the MCU, but like vision's gotta be in like the top five of like Heroes, right? Like he's unstoppable and Yeah, he was made to essentially be the antithesis to the Avengers at that point before Ultron didn't get him. And like And the only obstacles so far put in his path in this movie are just like normal humans. E like
[1:00:46] The the the villain, the paladin or whatever kind of brings that up as well. The also connection was the adamantium bullet. You know, that is a a pickup from the Captain America Brave New World, which we've not talked about adamantium since then, but they were like, oh, it's adamantium bullets, which I was like, oh my ears perked up a little bit for that. Yeah, I feel like I'm trying to lower my expectations for whoever the secret person on the other end of the phone call that's hiring the hunt down the vision. Like part of me thinks maybe it's almost like Wiccan. in some way. Like trying to find his d yeah, but that
[1:01:29] Yeah, and and that doesn't really square either. So I'm kind of getting a little nervous that if it is Wiccan it's It's gonna be a really contrived scenario which gets him on the other other end of a phone hiring like like the paladin, you know? Yeah, I think that two things have have sparked my interest. Number one, what if it's Ralph Boner? the guy who played I I guess Quicksilver in WandaVision, right? I mean, it it feels like it's gotta be somebody we've seen before, otherwise why modulate their voice? The other part is the power broker. Remember it was Peggy Carter's niece in Oh, yeah. Maybe I could see that.
[1:02:08] Oh it's it's modulate well to your point it's modulating it as a man, but it's really a woman at the other end of it because we do know they go to Madrapour at one point in the show. They've mentioned it once already. So like what if it's her and they're just hiding it. I I whatever it is, it's gonna to be honest, I agree with you, it's gonna be a letdown of whoever it is. but the journey's the most important part. It seems like the single best thing that they did was r pair vision with his son at the end of the second episode. I thought this wasn't gonna happen.
[1:02:41] Until the very, very end of the season and it was gonna be kind of dragged out. So I'm glad that it they finally put the two of them together. It makes sense why they dropped two episodes at the same time 'cause they're kind of They got us all set up for this journey of them discovering each other. I I think the big question now is does Wiccan show up by the end of the season? Will we kind of get the brothers reunited in this show? because them reuniting in either Doomsday or Secret Wars seems like it might be kind of confusing for like a general audience. Maybe that goes to like a big Avengers movie that hasn't been plugged into
[1:03:20] The Disney Plus shows. We're like, Oh, why are these two random like young actors that we've never seen before. Why are they emotionally connecting on the big screen right now? I don't know who these people are. So it kind of makes more sense for them to connect at the end of this show. And then they're just kind of normal kick-ass brothers like fighting Doctor Doom at some point. Yeah, and I I think that I honestly I mean I think there's a post crisis. I assume they will, because Wiccan is the one who put Tommy into that body, right? We saw that in the in one of the shows in WandaVision or Agatha
[1:03:53] Long. But also like Doctor if we go look to movies only Doctor Strange had the kids there as Wanda's sons. in that other alternate universe and they're like, oh they age up, it's fine. but I I I love Paul Bettany as division just nails it I love also that it's like, he's like, I'm also not the vision. Like, I don't have the feelings, I don't have the memories, I'm just a fucking robot. And he like And and that was at the restaurant, and he's like, You made one mistake. It's like I don't give a fuck. Like I will I will kill you if I have to because I'm a robot who has no
[1:04:25] Avengers, like n Ethos at the end of the day, which I thought was really fun. the effects on this are really good. I also like, you know, when Paul Bentney becomes like the he has that disintegrating head beam a couple times. absolutely love that. He also goes in that hospital. He's like, I'm here for the the trap. And he's like, they're like, oh. And then they go through the robots. The one thing I will say, my disappointment, Mike, is that, and this is a spoiler for anyone who has to listen, at the end of episode two they do ultimately I guess give up on Jarvis again. It feels like this is like the third time we've seen Jarvis
[1:05:06] Like not make it to the next episode or or movie. And I'm like, come on, pick a better pick a better robot to get rid of because I I do love again this vers version of Jarvis was not the original. He showed up in Peggy Carter. and 'cause Paul Bettney voiced Jarvis in the original Iron Man movies. So I do think there's a little bit of that, but like I just I'm sad it's always Jarvis giving up because he is like that guy who like, yeah, I'll I'll lay on the grenade to to so everyone else can live. But he's like the most human of the the AI. I feel I feel like this is kind of the structure that they're setting up for the season.
[1:05:43] I think we're gonna gradually lose all of the AIs and his journey to self-discovery will be finally when he gets all of these like you know, quote unquote voices out of his head. Right. You know, Altrons gonna finally get out of his and then he'll f he'll finally just be to himself and then I'll kind of have to make the ultimate like you know, reflection of himself and figure out what he wants to be. So I would imagine th they're all dying at some point. Yeah. I also enjoy that yo in episode too, they do answer the ship if these questions like don't be the ship, be the f Be the king, be theseus, not the actual shit.
[1:06:19] But I'm like, that's a fun way for this episode to be like, oh, that that very important point that was delivered in in WandaVision is like answered here's like yeah don't be the ship just actually be Theseus be the king who's saving the children like that's a fun way to bring that around without You know, like reintroducing it. So I thought that was really cool. I'm I'm interested, you know, two more episodes drop this Wednesday. I'm I'm all aboard, man. I I like this is a fun final live action series before we get to Zodiac in two years. so I'm I'm all on board for this, man. Like this is a great way to to send off these
