[0:20] Chris: Hello everyone and welcome to Superhero Slate to the show where we run down the latest superhero entertainment news.
[0:27] Mike: We love TV, movies, and superheroes, so let's talk it all out.
[0:31] Chris: My name is Chris.
[0:34] Mike: And my name is Mike.
[0:37] Chris: Oh, hell yeah. There we go. This week. New York Comic Con brings Marvel zombies back to life.
[0:44] Mike: That's a good one. Chris, you know what? Good copywriting there. Thank you. If if an AI if an AI didn't do it, I'm giving you a pat on the back.
[0:50] Chris: I I write we I do all these notes by hand. I want to let everyone know I once tried to do this with AI and it really did not work. So all this really
[1:00] Mike: Stinker.
[1:00] Chris: This is definitely in it, but it was all downhill from there because the next i that was my I was the highlight of that too. So thank you for calling that out Peacemaker sent off the pasture. Womp womp. Talk about that. Michael Bay returning the Transformers. Yes. Everyone get excited. Nobody. Okay, great. And more. And more.
[1:20] Mike: It's it's funny. I know it's Michael Bay and a totally different director, but just yesterday, I don't know how he weasels his way back into my brain. But Zack Snyder was in there, just rumming or rummaging around, reminding me that he existed. And I just thought like, what where can we put this man to just put his powers to good? And I started thinking of like well, he does really really good when it's just like high elevated like concept, right? You know, I feel like three hundred was very effective because it was just like a machismo out the out the butt, you know, just like crazy like action, pretty simple storyline I would say.
[1:59] Mike: It's kind of like move from left to right, you know, until you're fighting more goons. but I was thinking Zack Snyder should do like a Mortal Kombat movie or something like that. So here
[2:12] Chris: Here's something where when you said this, the first thing that came to mind, you know what we do with him, Mike? We give him video game adaptation.
[2:20] Mike: Yes. Because like Sucker
[2:22] Chris: Punch was essentially a video game movie that he made.
[2:26] Mike: Yeah, and he and I think He he probably does the best with like a source material, but a source material that's not too precious. Right? Like DC Comics too too much too much the the fiddle with there But like Mortal Kombat, I feel like, oh man, I'd love to see and he his visuals are so insane. Yeah. I feel like he would love to get into the gore side of things.
[2:50] Chris: Let's let's pick a let's pick a v I mean vi Mortal Kombat just had a movie this year. Let's not let's not let them Go go with that. What what else? What other items could we do? What other video games? I mean like Call of Duty is getting a movie. That's kind of up as an alley a little bit. We need more sci-fi, a little more what was that one movie he did that I can't even remember the name of it? He did two movies, part one, part two. Rebel Moon. Rebel Moon, there it is. how can we get him some sci-fi? Like, is he like I know God of War is getting a T V show, but you could imagine his God of War movie series, like three God of Wars.
[3:22] Chris: Like the original ones where he's fighting like
[3:29] Mike: So this is what I did Chris. I just introduced you to this YouTube series not long ago called Arcade Economy. Where he's going through and playing like classic arcade games. And I feel like any of these would be right up his alley.
[3:44] Chris: Fucking give him gauntlet legends.
[3:46] Mike: 'Cause like these are mostly kind of like forgotten franchises once you get to like an arcade game that's like not based on like a vr really famous like eighties movie. so there's one here that the guy just did called Cadillac
[3:59] Chris: Catillax and dinosaurs
[4:01] Mike: Cadillacs and dinosaurs like come on like this is the where Snyder needs to be so is this is this your
[4:07] Chris: Is this your next dinosaur franchise we've been talking about Jurassic Park having that luck on dinosaurs
[4:13] Mike: I mean I mean I guess this is just us getting excited for talking about Michael Bay here in the show a little bit later. But I d I did want to say, Chris, I rarely am prepared with a something to drink. while we record this podcast, something to pop on Mike. This is kind of like a wild card. So I did have a monster energy drink. Well half. I split I split the other half with the misses. It was it was already past lunch and me and energy drinks. Like once the sun crests its high noon is a little dangerous, so I just drank half of it. But we were just at Trader Joe's
[4:46] Mike: And this is or this is the biggest wildcard beverage I've purchased in a while because it is a Trader Joe's branded cherry cola. s but it's also a prebiotic soda. So I feel like any store brand trying to pull off cola That's gonna be difficult. And also it's a prebiotic soda, which is the biggest coin flip for me. I'll usually hate these or they're just okay. But I popped it. Haven't taken a sip yet, but it does smell like a jar of marasino cherry, so that's a that's a good start. So I'm gonna take a sip here.
[5:18] Chris: Okay. He's sipping, he's drinking.
[5:21] Mike: You know what? Hey.
[5:23] Chris: I don't know. I don't know what. Tell me.
[5:25] Mike: Hey, that's not too bad.
[5:27] Chris: Okay.
[5:27] Mike: That is really not too bad. looking at 40 calories, so that I think there's some actual like sugar in this. There's like some apple juice concentrate, some cane sugar. Okay, so that's that's why we're you're achieving flavor here, because it's like half sugar half like stevia. So I think this is basically how they make sodas over like in the UK because don't they have like some sort of legal limit of like how much sugar can go in like a Coca-Cola? So like Coca-Cola over there is like cut with some like artificial sweeteners. this is pretty good. Trader Joe's Cherry Cola Prebiotic Soda. It's like a red can. yeah, this is a thumbs up.
[6:05] Mike: I don't know if I would put it in my regular rotation, but this ain't too bad.
[6:09] Chris: It's funny because I was at I went I went grocery shopping, my wife was out of town, so I went and did the shopping and they have the Red Bull advent calendar for the holidays already now. That's like fifty five dollars. And I was so tempted to get it, but instead I I'm actually crack I crack I'm I'm double fisting over here. I already had a Red Bull open because I like you, it's four thirty here. I'm not drinking a a full When so I have the Fuji apple and ginger and and a Coke Zero for that. But have you seen my sister-in-law sent me this guy. He's been cooking
[6:39] Chris: With mon white monster instead of water. So he's like made like pasta with white monster and he's insane. He made like an apple cider or or like a cider with monster. And I'm like But he's got like a real Jersey accent, like a you know, like real like Italian jersey accent. I'm like, this is th there's gotta be some sort of Law against us that he that you know that he's doing over there. But now I see everything he's doing with the white monster. I'm like, I can't, I can't in in good faith cook it cook anything with this.
[7:13] Mike: If if we're sharing online liquid influencers, I guess, me and the wife are obsessed with this man named Ken, and he goes by Ken Chugs. And this man is he he's got it dialed in, man. Every day he's chugging something out of a boot. as far as I can tell in his long lineage of videos. I don't think he does anything alcoholic, so he just does it for the love of the game. and he'll take requests, so he'll chug like really thick things, like thick water. Or sometimes it'll just be like a nice like soda, but you know, it's like four cans going to like a boot or something, and he does it all in one chug.
[7:56] Mike: He did the nastiest thing ever the other day, which was thick water mixed with like this fermented herring juice. and it came out of a can that was like bulging and he chugged it and he didn't throw up at all. And the most the most charming part about this man is I think either himself or maybe his partner has like a cricket machine 'Cause he's always wearing like t-shirts with quotes from himself on the shirt while he chugs. It's so funny. he's a bright spot in my life right now. Ken Chugs, throwing this one out to you. He's a cool guy, go check him out.
[8:33] Chris: Yeah, no, it doesn't sound like I want to see any of that happening. but but that's fine let's hop into let's hop into the thing because we're gonna talk about drinking and eating like we're at the gate. So we got some popcorn vessel news this week. Two sets. So we'll start with the first one. It's Godzilla Minus Zero. So Godzilla Minus 1 came out several years ago. This is a sequel to that. And the popcorn vessel is one of the largest ones. ever. It's 19. 5 inches tall, and I'm not sure if this is a popcorn bucket or a fucking toy at this point, to be completely honest. And then The Heat
[9:11] Chris: Ray drink bottle is Godzilla coming out of the water, firing off his radioactive blast, and the blast is a translucent cup, which I think is the coolest of the two things. Showing yeah.
[9:22] Mike: That's the most thing worthy of discussion. Like that thing is made for a slushie to go inside of it. Like one of those like blue raspberry slushes in that bad.
[9:31] Chris: This is this is also the second thing we'll talk about today. It says ICs actually on the bottom, so it does actually looks like it might be an Icy in there. But notice it has a flip top zipper. Like you don't see a lot of those. Like you mostly it's just like a hole or a you know, a dedicated like straw that you can take out and clean, but it is a flip top zipper on this.
[9:51] Mike: I really want to see people start like ditching their Owala bottles or Stanley's in the office. And then they just go in with this Godzilla dish with a heat rate coming out of it. Like it'd be so funny just casually going up to the water cooler and filling this thing up and just begging for somebody to ask you about it.
[10:09] Chris: Well the problem is I'm not gonna be filling up with water. I'm gonna be pouring a diet coke straight in this son of a bitch and just drinking that out of it. Yeah I this this this cup is not meant for the clear clear water liquids Mike. We gotta put something good in there so maybe a scoop out of the ice maker and then a then a nice diet coke on top of this. But again I look at this toy, again nineteen and a half nineteen and a half inches tall, fairly large, you know, measuring here on my desk, but like where does the popcorn go in this thing Like can you tell
[10:36] Mike: What I mean what's the point anymore?
[10:39] Chris: Yeah.
[10:40] Mike: Like the not the not like my wife collects salt and pepper shakers, right? The novelty of salt and pepper shakers is basically you can use them. It's like a collectible that you are most likely never going to use, but theoretically they do function as salt and pepper shakers when you turn them over, because it's a pretty simple item. But this I'm sure it's probably like the scales on his back or something like pop out and it's he's and it's really just like hollow. so I don't like that. That's I I I think in earnest the popcorn bucket needs to be able to eaten. Eat your popcorn out of it while you're in the theater.
[11:15] Chris: And it needs to be easy to clean. Like that to me, like if they're meant to have popcorn in them, it's gonna be greasy and butter. You gotta be able to clean them easily. Yeah. I don't think it's a
[11:25] Mike: Yeah, otherwise you're just making like you said you're just making a toy, which okay, I mean if you want to be AMC and like have a new stream of revenue in your theaters and like sell toys, like that's fine. I'm not against that, but like I like what can I say? I'm a cultured man. I just want the popcorn bucket to be somewhat buckety.
[11:43] Chris: Yeah. No, I I mean even if it's not buy like it's it just bucket like There's that and then the other thing we and we'll talk about because we're coming up on the end of the year here where we'll do our our popcorn bucket in review. It's like how much can you actually fit in like how much popcorn do you fit into one of those dudes? so yeah, this is on the the side where it's more of a toy and a display rather than actually something else. And like you said, it's no problem to say that. I mean A lot of the is the cinemax I go to, they sell blankets, right? Like they're like, yeah, you're gonna need a blanket in here.
[12:11] Chris: You wanna buy a blanket, the theme, do that. That's fine. Like you said, it's fine stream of revenue. Don't call it a popcorn market.
[12:17] Mike: Honestly, think about it. Like if you had like a high end collectible depicting like one of the most iconic scenes of the movie you just saw and you walk out and you see it and like, oh my god, this was an amazing movie. I mean I think I think you're if we're talking marketing here, I think the conversion rate's gonna be much higher.
[12:35] Chris: What was it the Mortal Kombat at Cedar Mark had the Stein, like the Mortal Kombat Stein earlier this year as well? Yeah. And they
[12:41] Mike: That was like a nice thing.
[12:43] Chris: Yeah, and they like, yeah, we know that this is high end. It costs more, but you can drink out of it. It looks cool. You know, when Michael Bay takes over the franchise, you're gonna want to have this when you go watch it. So yeah, so but yeah, check that out. Godzilla Minus Zero coming out later. I've not even watched Minus One. I need to go do that. that's on me. But you know Godz if you're a Godzilla fan, this is your era to to get your Godzilla fix on. Mike, were you ever a fan of Stargate or SG1 or Stargate Alanus, the movies, TV shows, infos?
[13:15] Mike: No, that's that kind of like What would what do we say? Basic cable sci-fi. Non-derogatory. just I I never connected to it. I don't know if there was just something else on my television that night that I preferred to watch as a kid. It just never hooked itself into me.
[13:35] Chris: No. I loved the first movie. Like I I always remember watching the first movie. And I don't know if it was like maybe like those weekend like it was it TBS had it on or something or it was like maybe something of VHS we rent it over and over again 'cause it looked cool. So I definitely remember the the movie, and but I we catch glimpses of Stargate SG1 growing up, but I'm like, I don't get it. I don't know what's going on. Lanus didn't last very long. I know Jason Momoa, I believe, was in that one. I love the premise of it though. It's a portal, you put in the right code, it goes to another one across the galaxy, the little wormholes.
[14:10] Chris: Earlier this year, one of the original people was tapped to make the show. Amazon said no thank you, you're only appealing to diehards, but now Jack Schaefer, known for her work on Wondivision, is been hired to develop the series, a new series of Stargate. For Amazon. It's part of her overall deal with Amazon she signed earlier this year as well. I think she's pretty good to tap into some sci-fi stuff here. I mean, WandaVision was a high concept. Sci-fi show that everyone seemed to resonate with. I think this would be a great opportunity to have her back in that lore a little bit here.
[14:42] Mike: Yeah, let's do I mean sci-fi is great. I'm not gonna I'm never gonna turn my nose up at some some fun sci-fi.
[14:50] Chris: I think you are. It sounds like you're turning your nose up at this. No, I'm kidding. But but yeah, like I again I am I'm a big f again, I'm a huge fan of Stargate. I think it's If it's a series on Amazon, they might have some money for it. It sounds like they're always going after like the little weird things over there. So we'll see. But yeah, if anyone has any affinity for Stargate or James Spader and Kurt Russell from back in the early 90s, let me know. Transformers 8. So two things here. The franchise is back with Michael Bain talks to direct the next film which will not be the G.
[15:27] Chris: I. Joe Transformers Crossover film. However, the bigger thing here is that Steven Spielberg is back as a primary producer. so he will be doing creative oversight.
[15:38] Mike: Yeah.
[15:39] Chris: Well he was in the first he he did the first one, like right. as a like a creative person on the first one. So he is back in that role that he was in on the first one to bring Transformers back as a franchise here.
[15:52] Mike: Wow
[15:55] Chris: Yeah, I I I don't I mean there's a lot of good Transformer stuff out but like
[16:02] Mike: Chris and I seem to be flummoxed over here folks trying to like figure out like yeah this is just I don't I just do not know how to wrap my head around the Transformers franchise, unfortunately. Like Well the
[16:17] Chris: Robots in disguise, Mike. That's that's their gimmick.
[16:19] Mike: Yeah. I think the weird part I think the weird part is for me, right, is like obviously the the origin of this is like the cell toys, just like everything back in the day, right? But they have to put like a backstory behind this. So it's like they're not like rob like okay, they're robots. But they're like not robots, right? They are like They are like they're a life form from a different planet, but that planet just happens to like visually resemble machinery on our planet. So when they get here, they don't want to stand out, so they have the ability to transform into vehicles. So I think that's the hardest thing for me to get around.
[17:03] Mike: Yeah, it's like these are these things are aliens. I think that's the hardest thing for me to get my head around. Like the Transformers are aliens, which I feel like never comes up. I mean it comes up, but it doesn't and that's always what gets me
[17:16] Chris: I think the the thing is like again it does talk about franchises that jump the shark. I mean transformers I think one one one's really I really enjoy one, right? It keeps the mysticism, it makes it transforming actually look cool, right? Like all the The the the displacement of the bodies and the cars into the into the transformers. really really cool. Kind of gives the the vehicles a life. Then the second one came out during the writer's strike, right? is when they worked on it, and it just was like, hey, go bigger, go louder, no rules. And that's when we got you remember the constructicons, like the construction ones that kind of merge together.
[17:50] Chris: And they're like at the pyramids doing stuff. And it it you know kind of kinda gets wild. And then like they're like, hey, this is making money. We don't need anyone to tell us what to do. We're just gonna do everything at at the end of the day. And it's it's wild to me that you know they just keep going and making more and more money. But I guess it's a crowd pleasing thing. It's very big international. But like We're at a point where they did the the reboot Bumblebee, right? which was like a you know the soft reboot, if you will, going back in time. And then Rise of the Beast was like a sequel to that, which is kind of Beast Warsy, but not really.
[18:27] Chris: They've done Transformers 1. They just released the 40th anniversary of the animated movie. There's a lot going on here, and while I'm not really worried about wrapping my head around, you know, the Lord and the aliens here, but I just want to know what's left. Like what what else what are they gonna do with this? Because I don't know what else they could do that's gonna be new or unique they kill off most of the characters over time, right? Like you remember like they would just kill them. Like and be like, yep, alright, we'll need new Transformers next time. So like how do we go back to that like good versus evil, Optimus versus Megatron,
[19:04] Chris: Kind of back and forth? Stuff we had where like the humans were still part of the movie and it wasn't just like big robot action, go. Like even Anthony Hopkins couldn't save one of them that he was in, right? So I don't I just don't know where they're gonna go. But maybe maybe Spielberg being there is part of that. Maybe, you know, he what was that movie he did? The Ready player one, right? This kind of a nostalgia fast thing. So maybe they can put some in there. But like my my concern is with Michael Bay back at it. Like, are you gonna get someone who's like You know, we have
[19:43] Chris: One person who's a you know historic filmmaker with lots of good movies and some not so good ones, but then you have Michael Bay who's just like Downing white monster energy drinks Mike while he's probably filming movies, with w with actresses and I I don't know, so I'm very I like you said I'm Flummox is a good word. Torn is probably the other one I would use, right? Like I'm just like torn with like what are we what are we looking here? What are we trying to do at the at the end of the day? with that. So I don't know. this is the the thing I was gonna
[20:18] Chris: Flag the most out of this like with the Skydance emergence last week. This was like one of the first things to get announced. I'm like, oh no, this is not like giving me any faith in this big mega corporation at all to to announce this. So we'll see as we we come back to it. But I'm gonna go to the next franchise that is jump the shark, the legendary shark Jurassic World, I sent you the new title that was revealed, or like I guess maybe not even revealed, but like used somewhere coming up in this Jurassic World Liberation. Mike, what does that mean to you? Jurassic Park fan.
[20:58] Mike: I mean the first thing that makes me think is like the last movie just kind of reiterated to the audience that the dinosaurs are kind of like stuck along the equator because it's like the only Like they need like a they for some reason they need like a warm environment. that I think it was something to do with like their genetic code so they can't survive like away from the band around the equator. Which I guess is kind of like an interesting premise, but I just didn't like the movie that w that surrounded that premise. So like is liberation like a way to like I don't know, that the get the dinosaurs
[21:34] Mike: To to invade the earth again or is it gonna be like freeing some civilization that's being overrun by dinosaurs? I don't know. All I know is I will just tell you to refer to the last episode of let's restart this bad boy. let's start her from the ground up. redo it. I don't know what to tell ya.
[21:55] Chris: The only thing I can think of it sounds like maybe there might be like a some sort of Freedom militia group who's trying to I don't know get dinosaurs back maybe they've been rounded up again in between movies they just kind of reset the status quo they're like yeah we know where the dinosaurs are We put him in a park. so maybe it's like we're back in the the park again and we're gonna re- we're gonna free them. We're gonna liberate them. Like we've done this three or four times now. Like we don't have to go back. to the park. So I don't know where this is going, but the title alone isn't giving me any
[22:26] Chris: Any faith. I still I still go back to years ago Jurassic City Mike. Let's get back to it. Let's put him in a town Let's give 'em give 'em a little little town to be in and you gotta solve that. A
[22:37] Mike: Velociraptor in an elevator? Come on. I love that idea.
[22:41] Chris: Right. Well exactly that and You know, what was it? The end of the end of Oak Street was kind of like dinosaurs in a little city, like a little town, if you will. Maybe it could be like lantern style, you know, just drop them in the middle of Nebraska and be like, you gotta deal with dinosaurs Now. So
[22:56] Mike: Do we have do we have lanterns in the show notes today? Are we do not
[22:59] Chris: At the end of lanterns? We can talk about it. we can add it in there. I don't have it in here yet, but we can add it at the end if we're refused.
[23:09] Mike: A little bit of time.
[23:09] Chris: Alright, so let's move on. Ghostbusters. a new Ghostbusters movie is reportedly in the works called Nightmare on 34th Street, which is a fun little name. you know, Miracle on 34th Street, you know, Nightmare 34th Street. so people think it's a Christmas-themed film, based on that. Josh Miller is working on the script he's previously done, Sonic the Hedgehog, so No big deal there. It's just not what's his name? I can't think of the the son Reitman. it's not a Reitman doing the script. But I again he might direct it. I don't know. This could be the third one of the new movies. I was watching
[23:44] Chris: Ghostbusters 2 yesterday. The the original Ghostbusters 2. And the the big slimy things at the end whenever everything's sliming everywhere. But yeah, Nightmare on 34th Street dealt with you know every time a bell rings and an angel gets the swings. Well, since angels were dealing with demons here, that that could be fun, right? Nice little Christmas. Ghostbusters, any thoughts?
[24:05] Mike: Yeah. I mean how do you even I feel like I'm destructing I'm destructing franchises left and right here on the show today. of originally Ghostbusters was a comedy movie, but then it's kind of leaned into more of like the premise of the movie of like people like fighting ghosts. It feels like two different movies to me. and they've just been trying to find the happy medium somewhere. I mean, did the last movie perform well? the w the the ice the ice city. Yeah, fro frozen
[24:39] Chris: Frozen empire, I I I I think so. The problem is whenever I think of Christmas, I think of ice anyway, so I'm like, Am I are we getting Frozen Empire again? kind of thing. Like it feels like you just did snow and ice. Do something else, in in my word. But I don't I think it did. Afterlife is really I I really enjoy Afterlife. I think, you know, it's a good legacy sequel, but Frozen Empire I don't remember a thing about. I'll look it up here. But yeah, do you remember anything about Frozen Empire other than there was ice?
[25:10] Mike: No, because I didn't watch it.
[25:11] Chris: Yeah, I watched it. it did 200 million worldwide, it looks like. So probably not too good. I don't I don't know where the produ I don't see a production budget. It just says $200. $200 million
[25:26] Mike: Must have done good enough To make another one, I I feel like I can never get a a decent answer if if this is supposed to be a Paul Rudd movie or not. like after life he was kind of like a not on the not high on the call sheet or at least narratively he wasn't high on the call sheet and then w was was he in the next one as well?
[25:52] Chris: He's a main character in Frozen Empire, yeah
[25:54] Mike: He isn't? Yeah. I feel like it would just be better if they could just like tell me who the main characters are. Because it just kind of seems like it's like an on like it's on It's an on I guess the other one was an ensemble, but I don't know. maybe I'm just not the Ghostbusters guy. I think that's what it is. I'm just not the Ghostbusters guy.
[26:15] Chris: The Ectocooler is at the Coca-Cola facility in Atlanta. I don't know if you knew that or not. They have it at their machines there that you can visit. So bring back Ectocooler is all we really want at the end of this. You know, put a movie out, give us Ectocooler. You we're simple people. We know what we want.
[26:29] Mike: I I want like an ecto cooler crossover with like C4 energy because I just had their Hawaiian punch. version of the energy drink and it was pleasantly surprised to to find out that it was carbonated. So like a carbonated like ectocooler like
[26:48] Chris: It doesn't work as true.
[26:49] Mike: Push me through the well Well yeah, not in like your home laboratory. It didn't work. It didn't work at all. I think the C four production facility. I mean th they're basically creating explosives there. I think they can make it work.
[27:01] Chris: Yeah. I I don't know. I mean I th I think don't Don't m don't give us the original. Don't don't mess with a a thing that worked for us. But but yeah, they had this and then also was it there's another I forget what the show was called. There's another the animated Ghostbusters show coming out on Netflix as well. So we we do have more Ghostbusters on the horizon. over in DC World, John Cena said that the his character Peacemaker is taking a backseat while the DCU focuses on the big three. Referring to James Gunn, he quoted, this is his his saying, now this guy can play with a whole box of toys.
[27:32] Chris: And when you have the whole box, you need to deal first with the most valuable ones, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. So Is Adria Arjona playing Wonder Woman, Mike? Is that what I'm hearing here?
[27:43] Mike: I feel like it's it's gotta it's gotta I was just about to say that too, like we're kind of confirming the big three here. I I would say they got really lucky with where they left Peacemaker off. He's basically I mean not in a good light. He's kind of in this purgatory jail where he's like fighting for his life, but I feel like narratively it actually could be really, really good. Because like if they pick Peacemaker up like next year, like, you know, just another season, like, you know, what, he's been in this purgatory for like Maybe a year, a couple months, okay. But I kind of really like the idea of like this dude like just being trapped in there for like years and years, like maybe even like a decade until we see him again.
[28:23] Mike: And he's just like a totally a changed person. Well it and also like we talked about the last season of Peacemaker and we've talked I feel like we've talked Peacemaker at large on this show a lot of just like Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's just like gun being way too gun. So yeah, I'm fine with him on the back burner.
[28:43] Chris: Yeah, I don't I mean again and nothing against John C I think John Cena played the character well, absolutely but like yeah you James and got his role at DC Suisse because he was doing, you know, the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker and then, you know You go do that. You can't you can't be again to his point focusing on like oh we have Mr. Mixel Pittock or whatever his name is and you're like yeah but like nobody knows who that is. No one's gonna go watch that movie. They wanna watch Batman, they wanna watch Wonder Woman so totally, totally kind of get where that is in terms of like overall, like you gotta
[29:18] Chris: You gotta focus on where the actual whole DCU is, not just who your favorite characters are at the end of the day. but maybe we'll get more. Again, he's in a that round they want to make it like a prison, right, for for villains. So it could be one of those situations where You know, after a couple years they send some more villains there and then the villains escape and he's part of the bad guys again, right? So could absolutely
[29:42] Mike: I mean I love me some John Cena, but I am absolutely not going to watch I'll take that back. No, I might watch his Matchbox movie on Apple TV, maybe when I'm working out or something like that. Feels like the perfect type of movie to pay half attention to. Mm-hmm.
[29:58] Chris: And if you already got it, I mean it's there. It's not like you're going out of your way to to to get it at the at the end of the day. So totally totally understand that one but let's go back into the Batman. One of the big three he just mentioned there. The Batman Part 2. Filming has paused while Matt Reeves sets away for due to a family matter. we do know that this movie was previously delayed while Matt Reeves is rumored to be working on some serious personal issues. We don't know what those were. We we have no clue what when that originally happened. So it sounds like maybe something just re
[30:34] Chris: Turned, recurred. I don't know what it is, but it sounds again like yeah it's serious enough to stop a whole movie production, Mike. So whatever he's going through, hopefully it's you know not too serious and he can
[30:47] Mike: Yeah, I hope so. I mean the last time I mean the last time we had a family matter issue like this come up on the podcast, it was with Snyder and his daughter and that was very tragic. So I hope it doesn't end up that way. But yeah, I wonder how long it could possibly be paused for. I guess they have they have like insurance and stuff for that type of stuff. So hopefully like, you know nothing has to get too dismantled for things to go away. Also, too, like there's always like second and third unit directors or assistant directors and other people that maybe could possibly step in if they if they need to.
[31:25] Mike: But yeah. I wish them the best. Good good luck, Matt Reeves.
[31:27] Chris: Yeah, absolutely. And hopefully the Yeah, it it doesn't take too long. Again, I I think it's when you have such high profile actors, right? You got, you know, Robert Pattinson, Scarlet Johansson, Sebastian Stan, not to mention all the crew and stuff like that, to pause something of this nature is is no big it's not a a small deal, right? It's not something you just do on a whim. So hopefully they do everything happens. Do you think this will delay the movie, depending on how long this is? Because it's already
[31:58] Mike: My heart has this movie perpetually delayed anyway. So it's at at this point in time it kind of feels like the delay schedule of like a video game of just kind of like it comes out when it comes out at this point in time.
[32:09] Chris: I yeah, it's like it doesn't feel real yet until it's actually out, kind of thing, right? So
[32:16] Mike: Have you been watching the new season of South Park?
[32:19] Chris: No, not at all.
[32:21] Mike: They have a really funny running bit where they talk about, oh, don't worry, everything's gonna be better in November and they always say it and they always they always say it in the in the context of like politics and then the character goes, 'Cause that's when Grand Theft Auto Six comes out. Yeah.
[32:36] Chris: I have seen that I've seen those memes. So yeah, I do I I am I I do I do get that. That's pretty good. I was actually, I'll tell you what, when I wasn't sorting, I bought Grand Theft Auto 5. for the newest consoles cause it's 20 bucks and I'm like well if everybody's getting rid of discs in the future guess what collector's item this is gonna be when nobody has a disc anymore So I
[32:58] Mike: I guess possibly, yeah. May you're you're preparing ahead of time.
[33:02] Chris: Oh yeah. I was like I need to I need to get this can I kinda work on that. so I picked that up. But yeah, Batman hopefully hopefully not too delayed. On the other side of the Batman news, there's the Deathstroke and Bane movie that was like mentioned two years ago. the working title for this is now called Savage Hunters. Which makes sense. Sounds like, you know, Deathstroke and Bane. Deathstroke is a mercenary. for hire. They probably won't use the Will Smith version. And Bane is I could be a hunter, I guess. I don't I don't know, big guy. But the thing with that is I did see some rumors that you know Alan Richon is always talking to DC.
[33:42] Chris: Would and he might be in talks for this movie and not Batman Mike. Do you think he would make a good death stroke and or well probably not Bane, Bane's of Latin descent. Do you think he'd make a good death stroke or character in this?
[33:57] Mike: Hmm, I feel like Alan Richson is at an interesting point in his career where it maybe him and his team would be like, we're not gonna put you in a movie and cover up your face. Like, we don't want we don't want that to happen. You are like at this inflection point where we're trying to make you like the next like John Cena type of deal. We want you to be like a household name. so I could actually see that being an issue of like, oh, we w if he's gonna be a character, i we he needs to be at least half out of that mask during the movie I think the I feel like the working title has gotta be like
[34:36] Mike: Working, right? Because what sells more tickets, Savage Hunters or just Deathstroke and Bane? Right? Like what if they would have called like Deadpool and Wolverine like s something else?
[34:50] Chris: How many people know Deathstroke and Bane? Like I I don't I I feel like there might be like a a regular like a There might be a subtitle as well. Like, you know, something
[35:00] Mike: Maybe maybe Savage Hunters is the is the subtitle. I mean, I feel like using context clues, like if you're using the Mike's mom test. she's not gonna really understand what Savage Hunters is. Right. But even if she doesn't know who Deathstroke and Bane are, I think in context she could go like, Oh, those are like comic book characters just based on their names, you know.
[35:21] Chris: Right, well exactly. I think I think there's gotta be something with that. Like how do you how how do you find a title that pulls these together? 'Cause I think Bain's big enough, you know, obviously Tom Hardy played him in Christopher Nolan stuff, but like at the same time it's like, you know, how do you get someone, the the regular person to be like, okay, like, is this, you know, Like dynamic duo is the robin ones, right? so like maybe they find something to do with this one. I don't think it'll be Savage Hunters. I think that's just the r I can I I agree with you, I think it's just the working title
[35:56] Chris: So people don't find it, but I think that is the The way to kind of do that. So we'll we'll keep our eyes and ears open a little ground, but this does sound like a movie that is coming up here probably as soon as Clayface comes out later later this month. X -Men over in the Marvel universe. cameras are are going set to be rolling on this movie in early 2027. we got a lot of casting back at San Diego Comic Con. There's some casting still to be done. We've talked about this, you know, looking to cast. What Mystique and then some other people, so I don't think they're done yet, so they'll be casting until the cameras
[36:34] Chris: Are rolling. there is a theory that Cody Rhodes he showed a story on one of the things with music. to the X-Men 97 theme song or X-Men animated series theme song. In an interview he was talking about the franchise like with Rogue in it and then like he just kinda did like look at the camera Or like look at the the people talking it's like I can't s like that that look you know like I can't say anything because I'm gonna get in trouble. So rumor is that Cody Rhodes could be up for a role in the X-Men movies. We will see him as Guile shortly in Street Fighter later this month. He was also,
[37:09] Chris: Was that Leslie Nielsen movie?
[37:12] Mike: Was he in the was he in a naked gun movie?
[37:14] Chris: Was it naked gun? Yeah, he was in naked gun as like a bartender. he's like, you killed my brother kind of thing. it was Liam Neeson this time around. So he was in the newer reboot of it or sequel. seems like a funny guy, you know, a lot of these wrestling peop people, they they come out of the the regular ring action end up being pretty funny actors like we talked about John Cena earlier so
[37:39] Mike: I mean like no disrespect but I mean r wrestlers are basically like theater kids, right? They're they're out there hamming it up for a crowd performing and following along in a story. So I mean I barely know anything about Rhodes, but the fact that he just like leaned into those like popcorn bucket marketing videos that we talked about the other week. I'm like, Oh yeah, this guy's on my good side already. I I don't know anything about him, but this looks like he likes to have fun.
[38:02] Chris: Yeah. I and I agree. I think I think he he's got that wink and nod of the camera. He's not afraid to have a little little fun with himself. either. So he's also you know very you know a lot of superheroes, a lot of you know X-Men they're very muscular, very built. So I think he's got the the physique to hold that as well. So I would love to know to see kind of what you like is is he like a sabretooth maybe? Like I'm just saying this out loud as I'm thinking about like saber tooth.
[38:29] Mike: Maybe I mean like are we in a world where you have to have blondish hair to be saber-tooth I only assume he has blonde hair because he's guile in Street Fighter. Like I said, I don't know anything about him.
[38:40] Chris: No, he's got he's got the the bleach white hair, slick back usually when he's
[38:44] Mike: Yeah. I mean it kind of seems like that's kind of a a place where he'd settle in, right? He doesn't seem like he's quite big enough to play a hero in a superhero movie, but maybe he's like right at the perfect point of his career to play like a good villain. So yeah, I I would put five bucks on. You know, Sabertooth.
[39:04] Chris: Sabertooth. Sabertooth. I'm trying to think of who else could be in an X-Men movie. Like he he could be a villain. I don't think he's Gambit, you know, to do the rogue thing. I don't think he's Gambit. I'm just trying to think of like what what other characters would they put in an X-Men movie as a villain. I'm just thinking about the the movie like the TV show we've been watching. He's probably not Apocalypse. so don't go no one get your hopes up there. But if anyone has any ideas, shoot them to us. I'd love to know what your thoughts are for him. So But anyway, if we get some announcements of
[39:36] Chris: Like some side characters. X-Men, the best part about X-Men, like we talked about this, you there can be lots of people and they're all you know indicated by their one ability right that they do the one power they have so whatever they do, once he does his power, we'll know exactly who he is and and be able to lock on that pretty fast. Vision Quest is coming out this week on Wednesday on Disney Plus. All eight episodes have been sent to critics. And so not just the first few, all eight. The embargo for that review lists tomorrow, October 12th, Mike, on Monday And then we hit the ground running with a five-week release schedule for eight episodes.
[40:14] Chris: So this is what caught me off guard here. we have episode one and two on the 14th, 3 and 4 on the 21st. Five and six on the 28th and then seven the week after and eight the week after that. So they're trying a different release schedule for this one as well.
[40:31] Mike: Yeah, this is a a commitment, right? These are long episodes, but I feel like we gotta be looking at quality here. Even if you look at the creators behind it, right? That's already leaning towards, oh, it's gonna be good. if all of the episodes were sent to the critics right and the embargoes up the same week, they gotta be confident that they've made something good here. so it's kind of interesting too that it is like a double release up until the final two episodes, but the last two clock in at over an hour. So let's see here, eight episodes. I I'm I'm I'm lining this up with Great British Bake Off in my head.
[41:11] Mike: That's on that's on the 'cause that's th
[41:13] Chris: Well, two seven.
[41:18] Mike: So I think we'll wrap up bake off just before like episode seven.
[41:23] Chris: So the question I'm gonna have with that is Because they didn't disqualify anyone the first week, will they either disqualify two or throw in an extra episode?
[41:31] Mike: Chris, I've been bringing this up every week in this house, just hoping somebody will listen to me. My my theory is They're waiting for two bakers to be in the bottom two, close enough to where they can't decide who they're gonna send home and they're gonna send both people home. and I feel like they're just waiting for that to happen. Like they want it to be a hard decision and then just be like, oh well let's just play our let's just play our get out of jail free card and send a bull home because we don't have to make the decision.
[42:00] Chris: I hope it's another episode I I just want another one. Like, yeah, like give me something good., this season's been kind of
[42:08] Mike: I feel like this season they either got like a new producer or like the n or the producer that's been on the show is having like a midlife crisis and they're trying to like do something new because like every week like the the the The second round, what do they call the challenge one? What's that round?
[42:27] Chris: Technical.
[42:27] Mike: The technical challenge. It's been like some sort of weird thing, like brand new, never done before. they're like b really experimenting with that second round every week.
[42:37] Chris: They are and I I you know I I will say the new host Nigella she actually fits in really well. I really enjoy her. She didn't it doesn't feel abrasive like getting a new host In a TV show. So I will credit them for picking someone who actually replaced Prue very, very well because that could have gone sideways real fast if they didn't get someone who figured that tent.
[42:59] Mike: I also like that Prue had a brief appearance at the very beginning of the first episode. She was like it's like a changing of the guard and I was like, oh this feels like a very British thing to do.
[43:09] Chris: Well it was Doctor Who too. So that's yeah
[43:12] Mike: Like in American ha in American Hollywood, they would have been like no no no you're not stepping foot on the on this set. You've been let go. We never want to talk about you ever again.
[43:20] Chris: Well I don't even think she she I don't think she let go. I think she yeah again obviously she was older than she looked, older than she actually So they got they got so many but like I'm also I this we are way off Vision Quest at this point folks but you have to we ha we have scheduled vi like on Tuesdays it's Great British Bake Off, on Wednesdays it's Vision Quest, on Thursdays it's Taskmaster for me right now I'm three days a week on scheduled viewing and I have to watch them the day they come out because I'm not gonna wait. I'm not gonna wait, Mike. I can't do that, okay?
[43:47] Chris: And if I really wanted to, guess what? Sundays are Dragon Ball Z beer or Dragon Ball Super Beerus, the re-release, or the remasters, or whatever they're calling, the remakes. of Dragon Ball Super's first three seasons. So I Well
[44:00] Mike: Just makes me sad. Sunday used to be lanterns and now that's taken from me. It's gone. I have to find something else to do tonight.
[44:06] Chris: You should you Well, I was gonna say what else could you watch? we'll figure it out. If someone's got something for Mike to watch, send it our way because last night I ended up watching the fifth element. You watch the fifth element lately? It's so fucking good. It's still good.
[44:19] Mike: I haven't.
[44:20] Chris: It's still good. So anyway, all right, Mission Quest, five weeks release schedules in our show notes if you want to take a look at that, put it on your calendar. Next up, New York Comic Con Marvel came and dropped some announcements. The first one is a new live action series called Zodiac. This is not The movie with Robert Downey Jr. Mark Ruffalo, and somebody else. Mysterio. Yeah, Mysterio. this is based on Essentially, Marvel's Secret Warriors was a comic book that Jonathan Hickman wrote. It's one of his first entries into this. Agents of Shield adapted a lot of this, right? some of the inhuman stuff, the sh the the Hydra, but
[45:02] Chris: Zodiac is actually came from that in his twelve members, twelve super secret spies in like nineteen sixty, so it's not gonna be the same thing, who came together to work together to do some some task. I actually the logo we have for this Mike have you you've seen the logo right for this I actually have the page Of Secret Warriors. I'm gonna send it to you because I have every one of these books in hardcover. So the second I saw this, I'm like, I know exactly what this is. So Zodiac has the O is called the Great Wheel. I just sent you the logo, not the actual page from.
[45:40] Chris: Sorry. but the A is what, Mike?
[45:44] Mike: It's the Eagle in Agents of Shield.
[45:46] Chris: That's right. because that means we're gonna be getting a spy thriller, and I'm sending you the page right now, the Great Wheel. Sorry about that. I sent you the logo of his reference file. So In that Zodiac the O, there's twelve sections for twelve zodiacs. So each spy had a code name based on the a zodiac sign. Not their zodiac sign, a zodiac sign. and can you tell that that image is exactly the O I just sent you? there like
[46:10] Mike: Yeah it is
[46:11] Chris: Came right out of it Jonathan Hickman is also known for creating a lot of the MCU stuff right infinity war used his you know the black order the outriders stuff like that they are really pulling a lot in it he wrote secret wars which is doomsday and secret wars kind of be pulling together so they are really leaning a lot into this and yeah I wasn't
[46:31] Mike: Great
[46:32] Chris: Yeah, go ahead.
[46:33] Mike: Like I I I feel like I have like so much to riff off of this for Zodiac. first one, you you sent me the Zodiac logo like earlier in the week. And I had seen it earlier in the day on like a projector like a projected screen in an audience and I was like, what is this from? Like what event is happening down in like Brazil or Costa Rica or something? Like what random convention do I not know is happening? And then you're like, oh, it's c it's New York Comic Con. And I was like, oh, I always forget that New York Comic Con exists. Yeah. so I was like, oh
[47:10] Mike: Sorry, New York Comic Con, I forgot that you were there. But they do almost always lean into the television adaptations because you know, all the movie stuff always gets like announced at like San Diego Comic Con or D twenty three and then we're just left with the T V show stuff. But if this is being announced and timed right, I so desperately just want a show in the MCU where somebody just methodically goes over the aftermath of everything that's happening on the big screen. Right. Like if this Zodiac show existed like, you know, five or six years ago, it would have been so cool of just like them like going in and investigating like the
[47:51] Mike: Aftermath of like the blip, right? There's like an endless number of stories. They I was just reminded of the TV show The Leftovers, which is basically the blip, and I I've never seen it before. But the premise is like what like a th only like a third of the population just disappears one day and we're trying to figure out like, you know, what happened to all these people left behind. The rap is it Lind Lindell Is it Lin Lindelof? Is he the one that did that too? I don't know. Maybe I'm confusing the show creator.
[48:18] Chris: It's like the the the one hundred as well. There's like a bunch of shows that had like people who disappeared and came back.
[48:23] Mike: So it's like there's so much meat on the bone if we are going into like a battle world scenario and then doom is defeated or whatever, and then we rewrite existence of the world and the universes. Like I would love if like all twelve of these Zodiac people like are investigating this new world that they're in. Maybe th maybe they ha still have their memories of the previous world in multiverse. And like their job is to figure out oh what's new and different now? What are these new threats that the that we're not used to seeing? Like oh Fuck, all of a sudden there's vampires now? Shit, and we've never had to deal with a real vampire before, you know?
[49:04] Chris: Well, I also think it's one of those things where what if it like shield And and and by by I guess extension hydra was a bunch of non-powered people worried about powered people taking over the world, right? So what happens whenever you have the blip You've got, you know, the sentry stuff. You've got Gene Grey. Then you got Secret Wars, Doomsday going on. All these humans are like, fuck these people with powers. We need to take control. and create like a secret society of like, you know, high-powered spies or something like that to like make sure we are controlling the future instead of like relying on superpowered people who may or may not go crazy.
[49:43] Chris: And kill us all at a moment. So I think to your point, yes, they're looking at everything that was, but also like, how do we prepare to deal with these people next? Because we don't know how to do that kind of thing. Yeah
[49:55] Mike: I wouldn't I would not be surprised if Secret Wars is the last outing for our current incarnation of Nick Fury, right? You know, this new thing.
[50:05] Chris: Are you reading ahead?
[50:07] Mike: No, actually I wasn't. I didn't but like I you know this Zodiac could be the beginning of like a new like creation of like shield, you know, in this new world.
[50:18] Chris: The the funny part is, and and we'll talk about it here in a second, in in Zodiac, Nick Fury was one of the Zodiacs, but it's like Marvel Comics original Nick Fury, the white Nick Fury, played by d David Hasselhoff in the nineties, if you don't remember. Early two thousands Not the Samuel Jackson which was from the Ultimates. Now in the comics they were like, oh, white Nick Fury had a son who ended up being Black Nick Fury. Well, White Nick Fury's still alive. So like what if like we you we get rid of Samuel Jackson, not get rid of him, but like obviously he's he's up there. He's he's done his time in the MCU.
[50:49] Chris: And our next Nick Fury, or like we get a different universe's Nick Fury, who is more of like that serious spy kind of thing who's younger and they're like, oh, we're gonna pull this for like we're getting it like you said, a new generation, or maybe it's the son of Samuel L. Jackson's character. We don't know.
[51:04] Mike: Yeah. I I was just I was just ruminating on like, you know, what could we do? How do you follow up such a a fantastic on screen portrayal of Nick Fury. And I just don't think you can, so I think what you just pitched there of like Nick Fury's like son or something is perfect. obviously everybody blocked out Secret Wars and its existence, and I'm sure like the MCU will be happy to retcon it. I know he had like an alien wife, so I doubt we're dealing with it.
[51:35] Chris: Yeah, yeah.
[51:36] Mike: Secret invasion, sorry. I doubt we're dealing with like a half human, half alien hybrid, you know. I mean he was like a super secret like world spy. I'm sure he kind of put his dipstick in other vehicles across the planet. So I I'm a big fan of Lamar Morris
[51:54] Chris: You know what I mean. F
[51:56] Mike: Yes. Lots of friend. He he's great. He just like won like an Emmy like somewhat recently. I feel like he's ready to make this transition to like big paycheck Marvel, I feel like he'd be a cool
[52:13] Chris: Series spinoff. I think we we're at the part where we need this I mean I know they got rid of him kind of in in Civil War and that was awesome and the great, you know, rug pull but like We need to come back, bring the spy agencies back a little bit. Let us let's see what's going on around the world.
[52:26] Mike: We need to we need to ground the MCU again. I we the the stakes need to feel Real in a way of like the Avengers can't when the Avengers were saving the earth, I really liked that Because it's like, oh, they're saving humanity, they're saving their neighbors, they're saving the people, you know, that they might ride the subway with or whatever. But it's like once you get to like saving like multiverses, it's like it it's really hard to bring it home, right? You just can't they kinda feel
[52:55] Chris: You can't go higher than that sometimes.
[52:57] Mike: Yeah. There's always like a throwaway line of like, oh Captain Marvel is on it trying to save these other planets while like the storytelling focuses on Earth. It's like we we need to like rein this in after this. So it'd be a good way to do it.
[53:10] Chris: Yeah, absolutely. So that show it's a live action show coming out in 2028. also the other thing is we've got three animated announcements, and that is Marvel Zombies is returning with three separate spin-outs announced that will release over the next three years starting 2027. So Marvel Zombies the Winter Soldier in 2027. Marvel Zombies the Fist of Kansu in 2028, and Marvel Zombies The Last Guardian in 2029. Winter Soldier sounds fun. No surprises there. The Fist of Konsha, we had what was it Blade? Blade Knight in the last one as well, right? Where Blade was that. And then the last guardian sounds really cool because like who is The last guardian. Like is it Groot, right? Is it
[53:55] Chris: Is it Adam Warlock even? who's fighting the zombie horde in space. And I would all these things again, I think they're gonna come out in Halloween. This is it seems like an October release every year for this. but I'm glad they're bringing this back and picking up and maybe they're not done with where that series ended, which was like a kind of a cliffhanger, if you will, on the last. Some Marvel Zombie show?
[54:19] Mike: Yeah.
[54:20] Chris: Or not Kate Bishop, but
[54:21] Mike: I'm kind of
[54:21] Chris: Whoever it was.
[54:23] Mike: I'm curious what the runtime on these things are supposed to be. Like are they gonna be like small little series of like three or four episodes or are they gonna be like 90 minute things. Like when I first saw this news, I didn't read too much in the details and I thought all of these were gonna be coming out next year during Halloween, you know, like you know, like one a week leading up to Halloween or something like that. The fact that it has like a three year tal tail to it is like pretty surprising because like I you know, I think of like Fist of Conshoe, you know, obviously like there's gonna be tons of other stuff supporting it, but like I wouldn't say like
[54:58] Mike: Conchu is like a is like a like a well-known character, you know, so the fact that it's like holding down the whole month of October for Marvel in twenty twenty eight seems like kind of surprising I to me this kind of feels like a strategy of like, oh, we just put these all into production, they're all gonna be made at the same time. And then they probably had like a strategic discussion of like, do do do we drop these all at once or do we feel like we've finally separated this art style on this universe from the MCU? that we can just kind of like just drop 'em once a year just to fill out the
[55:38] Mike: Roster, you know.
[55:38] Chris: Brat Brad Winterbaum said that they're halfway through animatics on these, so they're probably just gonna be Done next year, all three. My guess is that they're one episodes, I think, and that these were the next trio of episodes. and they're like, guess what? We'll just release one of Halloween over the next three years. years and that'll be it. So that's how I'm thinking. I don't think it's gonna be each one's gonna have multiple episodes. I think it's one these are the next three episodes they were working on and that's how they're gonna kind of come out and and release along the way. but to that point I did update our upcoming release calendar with these so if anyone is interested in checking it out
[56:14] Chris: I've got all these in October free shear and then also Zodiac in 2028. So I'm updating these as we get information coming in, Mike, with that. Avengers Doomsday, we're gonna talk about real fast here. They got popcorn bucks. This is the second part of our popcorn bucket thing, so Cinemark's Popcorn Bucket and Drink Cup have been released for this movie. these kind of suck. Gonna be honest, just gonna lay it out there. for for Doomsday being as big as it is, these are not the winners I was hoping for.
[56:43] Mike: Yeah, it kind of seems like see we have Cinemark. I guess we haven't seen have we seen the AMC bucket though?
[56:50] Chris: I've not heard anything else other than these two and the next one's a different Spanish stuff.
[56:57] Mike: Yeah, it seems like AMC it sometimes seems to be the premiere bucket. I mean, the the sipper and his throne, like, okay, that's kind of You know, it's interesting r right, but you know, but then we lead back into like the popcorn bucket of like, oh it's the head. It's the head, the back of the skull comes off and that's where the popcorn will go. I guess the X factor here is that the looks like the eyes up.
[57:20] Chris: Yeah.
[57:20] Mike: So there's So there's probably like an LED there, but like I've we've seen some really high quality molds and this one just doesn't perceive as like Very high quality on this one.
[57:32] Chris: This is the low this is low bar. Like this is the bare minimum I expect from these. the next two we have are from the Sine Velv Velmo, which is or Yelmo, I I put in Yelmo, which is Spanish cinema. and they have a full bust bucket, so it's like the taller doom and his eyes glow, but also I think this is like where's the popcorn go or is this just a toy on a shelf. And then the coolest one actually here is is the the head sipper, which has the other foldable straw. They're doing foldable straws on all these cupcakes.
[58:05] Mike: Dude, the flip up I'm telling you, man, throw Throw the all the Alawa bottle away. Owa. O wallah. Yeah. kick the Stanley to the curb. we need to have these on corporate finance desks because it would just be so it'd be so funny. I feel like it's almost missing like a strap, like something like you carry around, like you know, at a a the a sipper at a theme park, right? it's funny because this sipper, even though like you can see like the big hatch on the head, I feel like the mold almost looks better than the than the Cinemark one we just looked at.
[58:39] Chris: Yeah, i mean it's the same as the popcorn bucket which is a drink. So like, you know, it it it is interesting. But I do wonder if a lot of like plot details and things have not been shown to the cinemas or if they've been shown they're not releasing them yet until closer. and we might be getting some more of that stuff because like I saw I think I sent you The Fantastic Four and X-Men and Doom all got like luggage and jackets and merch announced this week as well. which look pretty cool. So I'm thinking we're gonna get more as we kind of get closer to the movie and just kind of keep it
[59:08] Chris: Keep it down low. real fast, Avengers Secret Wars. Samuel Jackson says Nick Fury will return in the movie. So Mike was did not read ahead, but that's what he does. So Samuel Jackson will return to Nick Fury in that movie. rumored the main leads of the second film are, and take this with a grain of salt, but this is the people who probably aren't in the first one. Spider, the three Spider-Men, Toby Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland. Deadpool, Wolverine, Mr. Fantastic, Vision, She-Hulk, and the Young Avengers. The Young Avengers are likely to be Miss Marvel Hawkeye, which is Haley Seinfeld, Wiccan and Speed, and Cassie Ling, who's the daughter of Scotling. So
[59:47] Chris: We saw some concept art with these people last year. Remember that kind of leaked?
[59:58] Mike: Concept art is going to be reality, right? Because I feel like we're seeing a lot of characters in that leaked art. that we did not see in the, you know, the doomsday chair roster, if you will, and we know that Secret Wars is like the direct lead up. Also it makes sense thematically of like, oh, if this is kinda gonna be like our quote unquote last movie in this kind of Phase of the MCU, we we're gonna wanna like send everybody off. We we're gonna wanna see all of our friends again, right? It's like the it's going to like your class reunion We gotta s we gotta see 'em all before we w we ditch for the airport and fly back home.
[1:00:34] Mike: Yeah. So I think it makes sense that everyone's gonna return in in some in some aspect, but yeah, Fury needs to be there. I feel like this is gonna be like his his send-off, right?
[1:00:47] Chris: Yeah. I mean I I would love to see in on Battle World what he's up to in a battle world as well. Like what's he leading, what's he doing, you know, is he running an underground kind of spiring to take Doom down. Is he in charge of it because he has the skills to do that? I think that would be fantastic to to bring him back. with that so we'll see if any of this comes true after doomsday and when when secret wars filming picks up so that should be sooner than later lanterns, Mike. You ready to discuss season one of lanterns? At least maybe series one. I don't know. We don't know if this is the full season.
[1:01:22] Chris: They've not announced season two yet, but I do think with the numbers it was pulling it should be pretty good, but we should go into spo full spoilers ahead, right? I think it'd be
[1:01:32] Mike: Yeah, obviously Yeah, I don't want to waste any time. also like a lot of people were really into this show. I was recommending it to everybody out there of just like, oh, this isn't like one of those things that like you can just you know, skip and you don't have to like worry about like this is like really good quality storytelling and I was really kind of shocked by the final episode. Not because there was like some sort of like huge battle or some sort of like I mean there was a little bit of a twist, but like it didn't blow my mind. But like after the episode was over, I was just looking back at the series as a whole and I was
[1:02:07] Mike: Like Wow, they did a whole Green Lantern show and they barely did any Green Lantern stuff, but it was still really, really good. And they didn't even like save it up for the finale. As far as I recall, there was no green constructs in the last episode. If if it was, it was it went by in a blip, but I don't even remember it. So like I I'm just like shocked that like they just told such a compelling story with superheroes and we barely had to see any like superpowers and I'm sure There's some people that are like so pissed off that they didn't get any of that stuff. But I think it definitely helps knowing that like
[1:02:48] Mike: This actor who's playing Jon Stewart is going to be in the next Superman movie and it's going I I gotta assume it's gonna be like awesome and it's gonna kick ass to finally see him in like in a Green Lantern suit like making really, really cool stuff. So I I feel like I left with a pretty good taste in my mouth, but also like shocked that they did so much with so little. Mm-hmm.
[1:03:10] Chris: I I I enjoyed the show. This th this there's two things that come to mind here. Number one, this is not a Green Lantern show. This this is absolutely I will I will say this is not a Green Lantern show. It is a good show, it's got great story, but to the point that it feels like do you remember the Punisher movie with Thomas Shane in like 2003 or four? it's the Punisher, but that's not the fucking Punisher. Like they just put Punisher on a movie and like, well, we're gonna call it the Punisher. This is a show, a good show about Potentially potentially Green Lanterns, if we gotta see any. and that's fine.
[1:03:45] Chris: The like the longer I sit with the past week, the the more I'm just disappointed with how it ended. I I I think I enjoyed the journey. I enjoyed everything about it. I just don't think it's it's not fulfilling to me. I don't want to be left on my seat waiting for more. you've heard the you've probably seen this has been all over the internet, the surf Dracula. theory of this? Are you for yours?
[1:04:07] Mike: No, I haven't
[1:04:08] Chris: So there's this tweet in twenty twenty, twenty twenty one. He's like back in the day pre-streaming, if you had a show called Surf Dracula, you would see Dracula surfing in every episode, right? Because that's what he did. That was his name, that's what he did. After streaming came out, you get a show called Surf Dracula, you get a show about the origin of him, and then in the final episode, the final shot is him actually getting the surfboard to become Surf Dracula. And that's kind of
[1:04:35] Mike: Like he opens up a cabinet and you just see like the silhouette of a surfboard.
[1:04:40] Chris: Exactly. Yeah. So it's it's like it's it's that wouldn't say syndrome, but it it is of it's a streaming show and it's like we're setting you up for more later and I'm like I don't want more later. I kinda want more now and I'm not saying I need I don't need the big bombastic Green Lantern contracts. I don't need the you know, everything going on, but I'm like, you know, I it would have been cool to see like we didn't even like we didn't wrap up the lantern story at all in there. you know, not the lantern, the the guardians never showed back up again after he left the heart with that one
[1:05:16] Chris: During the time jump forward. You know, I I'm I actually thought the brothers were gonna stiff him on the money that he needed to pay off that girl who who he didn't even need to pay off at the end of the day because he found out who the killer was. So there's a lot of stuff there at the end. I'm like, you know, I had some ideas back, but like I just wish there was like Hey, don't don't tell us he's gonna become the Green Lantern. Is he even a Green Lantern at this point? Because he he's got a different oath, and that's fine. Nothing against a different oath. I'll tell you that I don't care that he has a different oath.
[1:05:47] Chris: He's not part of the core. He kicks Nathan Fillion off planet, essentially. which is how he'll be in that Mr. Miracle show, I guess. He'll be off planet with him. I just wish there was a like a little more of him Yeah, we get we we understand the this was it the symbolicness of accepting the responsibility, but I wish we had just gone just a hair just one step further, Mike. Just just give me one little step further
[1:06:11] Mike: Yeah.
[1:06:12] Chris: To see what it was.
[1:06:13] Mike: I absolutely do not disagree with you in any way. Like, if if if they didn't show him like fly off at the very end, like using the power of the ring, I probably like would have lost it. Like I just desperately needed to see him do something. with the ring and they gave me the flying and like mentally I was like, okay, that's like just enough for me. Like if this was like a scenario in which like I don't know. I knew I didn't know when his next appearance was gonna be, right? I don't know when a Green Lantern movie's gonna be made. I don't know when the second season's gonna come out. I probably would have lost my mind.
[1:06:49] Mike: So I think I can a hundred percent imagine somebody watching this show and just like being like, come on man, like you didn't give me anything. Like I I I'm kind of like maybe it would have been nice to see like a little skirmish between Nathan Fillion, you know, and Aaron Pierre, John, right?
[1:07:09] Chris: Yeah, yeah.
[1:07:09] Mike: Yeah. at the end, like, you know, not like null holds bar, but like it'd been nice to see them just like spar
[1:07:16] Chris: Just like yeah. Yeah, just say you use this ring the way you you're saying you can use the ring. Yeah.
[1:07:20] Mike: Yeah, just to get like a little like give me a little taste, but like they just did a really good job storytelling. I feel like This is like the first time I feel like I'm ever like really gonna connect on a deep emotional level to a superhero like on the big screen, right? Like I like I'm trying to imagine a world in which we didn't get this show and the same actors and same characters are whatever in like a like a lan lanterns like origin movie, right? They just wouldn't have been able to explore as much like pathos and like ethos and like backstory. And I just I i I wouldn't have felt the connection as much.
[1:07:59] Mike: So this is definitely a little bit of like of a gamble and I think they're lucky that it it paid off. so I don't think we're gonna see more stuff like this. in the future as effectively, but I all I have to say is I I'm very stoked to see Man of Tomorrow more for more Green Lantern and not so much of like seeing like Lex Luther in a power suit.
[1:08:21] Chris: Well I and I think The thing is I'm cons I to your point and I know he's gonna be I just wanna know how much he's gonna be in there. Are we gonna see him in a suit like I don't need to see him get the suit. Again, like I don't wanna surf Dracula he's like, Oh this is what my suit looks like. I mean I like I get it, he's not gonna have it right away. But like, you know, what what is he doing? Like, how is he protecting the earth? What does that look like? And the thing I will say at the end, you know, it is interesting he's got a lantern that was made by Sinestro that has yellow in it.
[1:08:50] Chris: Yellow is Green Lantern's weakness was yellow, not necessarily fear early on. So that's gonna be interesting to see that. take place. The last shot of him in his house with his brothers, his parents and oh what's the plant's name? it wasn't Doug
[1:09:06] Mike: Not
[1:09:06] Chris: Doug. Gary?
[1:09:08] Mike: I don't remember the plant's name, but it was like a human like blue collar name.
[1:09:12] Chris: Yeah, the house was yellow. So I'm curious if that that's actually a real thing or if that's his like a mind scene like unless like not a physical scene. Like is that like what he's imagining it like h coming back to his family is gonna be like? and that's the it powered by the yellowness the the the fractures and the yellow lantern or Green Lantern with the yellow that is. And I would like to see that. I mean that needs to be the next version of this as playing out like what are the actual ramifications of a Well homebrew lantern is with a ring and made by Sinestro on the fear
[1:09:50] Chris: Planet. the one thing, you know, I'm glad I am glad they stuck to As much as I did want it to be true, I'm glad they stuck to how being dead, like actually killed in the in the beginning. It's not a clone, it's not a copy. but Sinestro saying I know how to bring him back is definitely a little not a MacGuffin, but like a little hanging chat, if you will, if they do want to bring a real-life Hal back. because I I think Kyle Yeah Kyle Chandler is awesome in this role. Like I honestly, you know, I we we say Aaron Pierre, but Kyle Chandler sold this for me through and through.
[1:10:26] Mike: Yes.
[1:10:27] Chris: Absolutely amaz amazing actors all around. I didn't know this until halfway through, but Kelly McDonald, she's the voice of Merida in Brave. Like the sheriff? No. She's actually I had Scottish.
[1:10:37] Mike: I had no idea.
[1:10:38] Chris: Yeah, so yeah, she she pulled that off really well. So a lot a lot of good stuff here. Just was went and just just a hair more at the end, like I again I'm not asking for the the moon. I'm not asking like all the people online, like oh you gotta have the big battles and the green lantern and the gut. No, just a little bit more of that, a little bit more wrap-up where the guardians are with everything. So any other notes, Mike, before we wrap up today's show?
[1:11:03] Mike: No.
[1:11:04] Chris: Okay. Well that's a lantern, so you can go you can go bench it now. But Mike's Sunday's ruined, so if you got shows for him to watch, we could do that. I don't think he's ever watched Dragon Ball Super, so you know he could always start with the original Super and catch up to it.

[1:11:22] Chris: Well, I mean y what you gotta teach your daughter about Dragon Ball. Maybe start with Z even. Get her into this, so be fun. But Mike, if people want to know what you're up to, what you're doing, where can they find you, buddy?
