This week on Superhero Slate, the DCU kicks off filming Supergirl, Star Wars movies kick into gear, Daredevil is Marvel’s Next Big Thing, and more!
News
Resident Evil
- New movie to be written and directed by Zach Cregger (Barbarian)
- Will be horror focused and more true to game franchise (probably first 4 games)
The Toxic Avenger
- Cineverse is releasing the remake as Unrated in theaters this year
- Sits at 92% on RT but has been deemed “unreleasable” and “not safe enough to market”
- The remake stars Peter Dinklage as Winston Gooze, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon
The Suicide Squad
- Not canonical to DCU, only Creature Commandos forward
- “For instance, Rick Flag Jr was killed because we heard Rick Flag Sr talking about it in Creature Commandos, not because we saw it in The Suicide Squad.”
- “Only CC forward is pure canon; Peacemaker is almost entirely consistent with that canon other than the Justice League; The Suicide Squad has a lot of consistencies but I think of it as an imperfect memory.”
Clayface
- Character may not be dead after Creature Commandos debut per James Gunn
- Movie could also be a prequel or not released in timeline order
Supergirl
- Movie officially filming with an image from set
- Features the House of El symbol (probably), Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El
- Location seems to be bar first featured in issue 1 of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow from Tom King
Lanterns
- Has cast Ulrich Thomsen (The Blacklist) as Sinestro in series
- Not necessarily a Yellow Lantern yet
- Described as “a former Green Lantern who turned rogue and is ruthless yet undeniably charming. Sinestro’s manipulative nature drives his enduring obsession with his former mentee, Hal Jordan.”

- Script written by James Mangold and Beau Willimon (Andor)
- Will probably affect Mangold’s start date for DCU’s Swamp Thing

- George Nolfi (Bourne Ultimatum; Oceans 12) has been tapped to write script
- Set 15 years post The Rise of Skywalker, will follow Rey’s training academy

- Follows up from reports that film is “moving faster than expected” and will begin filming later this year
- Most likely release before Dawn of the Jedi but after Mandalorian and Grogu
- Will be a standalone film, not connected to the Skywalker saga

X-Men

- Have previously indicated interest in X-Men
Marvel Animated Film
